Been denied strong pain relief by hospita... - Endometriosis UK
Been denied strong pain relief by hospital and GP absolutely heartbroken
Hi,
It is horrendous at times, I know how you must be feeling.
What medication are you currently on? In the past I’ve tried Nefopam (non opiate, if GP is concerned on this), paracetamol (still, taking it regularly can help more than just as and when), Tramadol, Oramorph, both of these, not at the same time, but depending on severity. The pain consultant said Amitriptyline for nerve pain, I think it helps a bit.
Hope Covid settles soon so you can get surgery. Your GP can help with pain management.
Take care 🙂
I’m on 30 mg cocodamol that’s it and my gp won’t give me anything even though I’m diagnosed as I know she knows nothing about endo🙄I only even get givin morphine is it’s by a nurse who has endo and understand it’s not fair and I hope so too my whole life is depending on it🥺 but thankyou for you advice x
HiYour GP has a certain responsibility in helping you. If their website has an econsult form or similar, there will be something, use this to tell them plainly that you need better pain management and/or an urgent referral to the pain clinic. The pain nurse at A&E started the Tramadol, she said cocodamol wasn’t great for endo and the pain wasn’t in my head.
See a different GP, maybe there is one that has a bit more interest in women’s health.
Try not asking as such, tell them what’s worked in the past and request, add in surgery is postponed 🙂
Just to jump in here codeine when taken with paracetamol turns into morphine in your liver so you can't take morphine with co-codamol because you will be overdosing. Do you take anything else with your co-codamol? I started with mephanamic acid but it didn't help and switched onto Naproxen - I find that neither work alone but together they do the trick. I echo people about talking to a pain specialist - also asking your consultant to write to your GP with what you need.
Best thing I did was see a pain management specialist. He did a letter to my gp listing the medication he would recommend. Most of them were strong pain killers. It kind of backs it up and pushes the gp to actually prescribe them. Because of the drugs issue with very strong pain killers they are reluctant to prescribe but getting that letter I was able to get tramadol.
Hope this helps. X
Hi
Know you just want the pain to stop, but be careful as they can cause other problems
which will add to the pain,
Try taking natural products- herbal expect a lot of information is on line
Example ginger for sickness#
thyme for pain
etc
A good chemist, herbal site would have them available in teas, tablets oils etc.
Best wishes and keep safe
Thankyouu all so much for you time and advice I had an appointment with the pain clinic but was so severe that day I couldn’t move and had no money to transport me to my clinic an hour away😢 devostated I missed it now as it seems it would of massively helped me I’ve filled a form in today telling my GP if they don’t help I will be going higher up and complaining because I’m just not taking no for an answer anymore😊
I'm sorry your having problems with pain management. Just keep going back to your GP until they help you. I have a chronic pain condition before I had endo and most days could barely move or walk. I would call and call in tears everyday to my GP till one day I got someone new who listened to me and out me on tramadol and gabapentin.
Because I have a good pain management plan in place I only need top ups for flare ups and use a wonderful tens machine I brought.
Don't suffer, keep pushing!! Call everyday if you have to XX
