Hi all, I’m having a cystectomy in a couple of weeks time to remove endometriomas from both ovaries. Was just wondering if anyone knew the recovery time for this operation? I’m still working from home at the moment so assume I could be working again after a couple of days?
Thanks,
Sarah

I had similar (cystectomy and removal of both tubes). Everyone is different, but for me I had the operation on Friday afternoon, home that night. On Sunday I went into town for a family meal and on the Tuesday I drove to my usual 3-hour pottery class! However, I took all that week off work...(had told my employer that was my intention beforehand). So in theory, you probably could work from home after a few days, but if you get paid sick leave, I'd take it. I think a week off work after general anaesthesia and an operation is within the realms of reasonableness!
I also think my recovery was very quick compared to others - some people have the after effects of anaesthesia, and pain from the operation for several weeks. I only took codeine on the first night, thereafter just regular paracetamol as my pain was fine. So possibly not representative.
I had a similar operation last year. I had 3 weeks off work. Whilst I could physically move fine after about a week or so, I was just wiped out and really emotional (side effect of anaesthesia, little sleep and outcome of operation). But if had been able to work from home I would have probably been able to do so within a week, and just been flexible with my hours allowing nap time! Good luck lovely x
