Do I push more?

Hi,

I’ve just been diagnosed with deep endo in the pouch of Douglas...there is 2cm of scarring - I was diagnosed via MRI.

Pain and symptoms have thankfully subsided the past couple of months but I am about to start trying for a baby for the first time.

The doctor didn’t really tell me much except “don’t waste any time” (in terms of trying to get pregnant) but that was about it. I didn’t get given a grade or told how my chances of getting pregnant would be reduced. She said they’d only go down the treatment route should the pain worsen again or if I struggled to get pregnant.

Does this sound right or should I be pushing more? Should I be asking for a dye test? I was expecting a few more facts tbh.

Thank you!

Hi Stephyjayne

Sorry your doctor wasn't more helpful! When you say doctor - is it a gynaecologist at an BSGE endometriosis centre? I would start trying for a baby and hopefully you conceive. I would also contact your GP ASAP and ask them to refer you to another hospital locally (with a endometriosis centre) for a second opinion. By the time your second opinion appt date arrives you should know if you've managed to conceive. You would stay on the list of your current gynaecologist, once you've had the second opinion, you will need to choose between them. I would do your research and ask for a specific consultant in another hospital. (iwantgreatcare.org/)

This doctor doesn't sound great as normally they say post surgery to remove it is the best time to conceive. Your chances of conceiving are greater at stage 2 than stage 4, for example. My Gynaecologist told me MRI scans aren't that reliable sadly. I had that experience myself so it would be a stab in the dark for your consultant to tell you the stage without a laparoscopy.

If you didn't speak with the consultant directly at your appt, then I'd ask the endometriosis nurse to book you another appt as you are unhappy (and want to be on the consultant's telephone call list). That way you have an idea of what the consultant's view is and hopefully a second opinion at another hospital too.

Hope that helps
