So I am currently taking Cerelle (mini pill) for contraception and also after having been diagnosed with mild rectovaginal endometriosis last May at the age of 22. Cerelle is causing me to have a period for 2-3 weeks, then have nothing for 2 weeks and then I am back on for another 2-3 weeks and when I have asked my doctor for alternatives he said Cerelle is the same as any other mini pill and so either put up with it or come off of birth control, which I do not want to do. I have previously suffered from migraines and that is why I have to take the mini pill. Can anyone offer any advice on if they have taken alternatives to the mini pill and how it worked for them.
I have looked into getting the coil but the thought of getting it put in after hearing stories puts me off as well as it maybe being felt during sex. I also looked into getting the injection but 3 months of having something inside me that if I get a reaction to I can’t do anything about also concerns me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello lovely firstly you don’t need that from your doctor there are plenty of pills you can try.could you seek another doctor?after much research I discovered the Mirena is the best treatment for endometriosis.also could I remind you that you don’t always need to accept any pills or contraception and going for a natural route is also acceptable through diet and supplements. this is the route I choose and have less pain than pills the pill had me bleeding for months hope you find some relief soon x
It was actually a gynaecologist that told me that. I could not believe it! I think I may consider trying the Mirena next. I would love to not have anything but I am in a relationship and we do not want any children yet so I’d prefer to just have that extra security.
Oh dear I think the issue with general gynaecologist is they don’t understand the condition enough so just offer the pill.and I understand you wanting to be on some kind of contraception.i will say that I had the Mirena around 8 years ago and I loved it didn’t know I had endo then or wether I had it at all had no pain with sex then but everyone is different I didn’t have a period for about a year it was bliss and no side effects wish I was on it again after children but I just decided I didn’t want to be on hormones after my last child then endo came along.*sigh
Hey I’ve had the pill, implant, injection and now the coil 😂.
The injection I found amazing, but the downside for me was it just stopped working randomly after 6-9 months. I also had to have it administered every 10 weeks.
The coil was my last resort, and I refused it for far too long until it was my last option. I read so many horror stories but all these hormones work differently for everyone. I was in such a bad state, I had nothing to loose by trying it. X
Because at ten weeks my pain and bleeding stared, so they allowed me to have it slightly earlier. Ten weeks is the earliest you can have it.
The coil has been fine, I was in more pain for a few days when it was first put in, then my bleeding lightened although my pain stayed. I was bleeding and in pain every day for 18 months, I had another operation and I’m completely different now
Hi, I have found the depo provera injection (every 12 weeks) the best treatment for me, no periods and little pain. I have only tried the mini pill and implant- both terrible for me but everyone is different, good luck x
I had to try a few different mini pills actually! And it took me about 2 years for the spotting to stop. But I'm glad I kept with it as I now don't have periods and I think its helped my endo.
just from personal experience I was on cerelle and it made me bleed non stop and have other side effects like headaches and cramps. On the other mini pill cerazette (which is meant to be the exact same) I have only had an amazing experience! No period apart from 2 days on spotting every couple of months and no other side effects.
