I just had 3rd lap for endo and removal of left ovary. Also had a mirena installed- should I still take pill as well so I can skip my period
Your mirena should prevent periods as it stops ovulation. So you shouldn't need to take both that and the pill. I don't think they're designed to be taken together unless your specialist / GP says you can.
FYI the break in the pill packs doesn't give you a period either since the definition is it proceeds ovulation which doesn't implant and the lining of the uterus breaks down. With the pill we don't ovulate, it's the drop in hormones when we stop taking the pill which causes the bleed so it's called a breakthrough bleed. It's only so we can get the terms right and don't confuse each other!
There is general bleeding listed as a side effect of the mirena, which happens quite a bit for some women until their body is used to it, or their body doesn't agree with it. I think you're supposed to wait about 9 months for the side effects to reduce.
Hi when I had my coil fitted my gynaecologist told me to take my last packet of the pill along side the coil. Then stop it. This is because if I missed a single pill I'd have a period 2 days later so he wanted to give me a chance before having a period. Glad he did as I found the coil excruciating, had mine put in under GA that's all the did and I woke up in tears from the pain (my cervix hates being touched hence the GA) . It has settled now though and I only had 1 period and 1 set of spotting after the initial month and I've been on it 6 months now.
