How long did you have to take off work after a laparoscopy? I’m a single mum so trying to plan how long I need someone to take him to school and just want to have some sort of expectation of how long I’ll need off before we can get back to normality xx

Hello I have just had my surgery and they say a week to two weeks I have taken two weeks of but I would get some support for childcare as the first week is painful and you can’t lift or do much at all to let the stitches recover a bit. I started to feel myself half way through first week so I could then start doing more on my own without support good luck xx

It depends on what you are having done. A diagnostic lap 1-2 weeks (was feeling good by week 2). When I had excision surgery I had 8 weeks off. The first 2.5 weeks I couldn't cook for myself. I couldn't even lift a small bag of shopping till week 5-6.

The general estimate given is 2-6 weeks as it depends on the extent of the work done, the number of incisions made and from person to person.

Diagnostic with potential excision depending what they find. So might just need to wait and see! Thank you for your reply, that’s all really good to know xx

Hey, it depends on how much they do; diagnostic lap, excision, deep endo, extensive endo.

The standard sign off is about 2 weeks, but that can be extended in increments if required.

I had three weeks off for one of my laps and 6 weeks for the other (1 week hols in there). For the first two weeks of both I was just recovering, wiped out, can't move much / lift anything. I started back with light exercise and yoga stretches at about 3 weeks each for both laps.

Thank you for your reply! Think I’ll go for 2 weeks initially and see how it goes based on what they’ve done and how I’m feeling xx

After my laparoscopic procedure to remove a large ovarian cyst, perform a D&C for endometriosis and do a diagnostic evaluation, I only took a week off from work. I really should gave taken two weeks at least. My pathology came back for high risk of endometrial cancer, so I had a vaginally assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy yesterday (7 weeks in between). This time I'm taking 6 weeks off of work.

Hiya I had around 4 days in hospital with diagnostic then rested for a further week-2weeks at home for the tendernous to improve. Excision i had 1night in hospital discharged myself (bad experience unfortunately) then had 2weeks off at home for swelling/bloating, fatigue and pain to improve, then went back to my fulltime job so you need atleast 2weeks for a excision of endo, hospital say take 6 weeks off but see how you feel after 2weeks you may feel you can do light duties again . And my surgeon said (depending on the extent of surgery but I had stage4 endo removed from all areas), that it can take up to a year to actually heal internally properly, so i suggest just listen to your body and be kind to yourself.

Xx

I've got a question , who signs you off, the doctor at the hospital when you have the op or do you have to go to your GP??

That’s a good point, I’ve really no idea. I’d hope the hospital initially so you didn’t need to then go to the GP after surgery...

I was given it by the doctor on the day of my op. When I needed it extended I went to see my GP x

I'm really not sure I took mine as holiday pay :/ but I know your gp can do these sick notes. Your hospital/surgery outcome etc. will all be in there files for you.
