How to stay positive

Hi I am new here. I have been diagnosed since last year. I had an ovarian cyst removed my from both of my ovaries. I am student. I am currently studying laboratory and I am having a hard time trying to keep up in class due to me missing so many days and at times I find it hard to stay positive. It make me angry when I can't enjoy doing the things I love doing in my free time because I am in so much pain. My question is to you all how do you stay positive in life.

Hello Smiley smilez

My advice is literally just to start with enjoying everything you can do, the littlest of things like having a cuppa with someone you care about. Just try to remeber everything you have to be thankfull for.

Everyone has there struggles aswell so your not alone. I know what we are going through is hard people have very little understanding of what endometriosis is and feels like. We have to fight through everyday in constant pain.

But chin up petal you will get through it.

If you need to talk feel free to message me.

X

Hi, I'm also a student and I know how hard it can be to keep up! If you're not already get in touch with your uni or college's disability support and if they have a counselling service go to that to, I found it really helpful to talk through my personal problems and the counsellor gave me some tips to fight off stress and keep positive.

Main thing is allow some time for yourself. I find it helps sometimes to just write off a day/night and say I'm not doing any uni work today and just relax, like the reply above it's about enjoying the small things 😊 xx

Hi Smiley_smilez,

So sorry to hear you're going through this. The only way I got through mine was treatment to have it removed. I will never forget the relief after my first laparoscopy to have stage 4 endo removed, 2 twisted ovaries corrected and a mass in my gut removed .

Unfortunately the NHS has massive waiting lists and a lack of endo specialists however it's important to keep fighting for treatment. Please do not allow them to tell you to live and manage the disease, or that surgery will make it worse - it's just not true. You need the endo removed by an endo specialist and then go on a hormone suppressant. Contraceptive pill works for some, the coil for others and some if us are just unlucky and have rapid regrowth. Fir rapid regrowth it's important to keep your diet as low inflammatory as possible, eating light fresh veg n salad, low meat, low dairy low sugar low alcohol and no processed food if you can. If you look around on this site you will be shocked at the amount of women who swear by the diet and it really does lift your mood.

Lastly, print if information about the pain endo causes and give it to you nearest and dearest, even friends and lecturers. Make sure they understand what you are going through and that they understand until you have further surgery to have it removed co.bined with a contraceptive immediately after the surgery to block estrogen.

Have a read of some of the US sites on endo and reducing estrogen in the body. They r very informative and have a lot more details on the disease than any UK sites I have found.

I really hope all the best for you. Please do stay positive and keep fighting. If you need a down day, dose up with painkillers and recharge your batteries. The pain you feel is very real and people around you will just not understand the extent of the pain. There really is no pushing through, or study while you rest.

And please please fight for further treatment.endo is not something we should have to live with. Our healthcare system just hasnt caught up yet.

If you have the money (I dont doubt as a student you probably wont) there are some brilliant endo consultants doing laparoscopies and follow up care for around £4700(london prices). Ask family for contributions at christmas and birthday, do a sponsored wall, crowdfund. Dont be shy you need your life back. ❤❤❤❤

Thank You so much for replying to my question❤❤❤❤. It is great to know that I am not alone, at times I do feel like that. My specialist don't want me to do surgery because I am still young and I do want to have kids in the future. She suggested that I wait before removing it.

I don't. I refused to be in pain. I cjanged my diet completely, I changed my lifestyle and my career choices.

I chose to prioritze my health over everything, including my degree/career

What career path did you decided on afterwards. I am having a hard time trying to decide what carreer choice I am going to do. I am studying Laboratory requires me to move alot and at times I can't walk because I am in pain. Now I have to decide what career I am going to do that alows me not to move as much.

I cannot sit when I'm on my period because the pain on the anus is horrific. I will definitely find a job that's flexible and allows me to move because I've noticed that reduced the pain (not moving during a flare up but leading a healthy lifestyle and not sitting for 8-10 hours)

You don't need to change career paths, just choose some lab work where you sit more (e.g. bioinformatics). I am not telling you to change your major obviously. Just pick a job position that suits you best.

But if moving around is hard enough, I fear you need to seek an experienced endo excision surgeons and discuss the possibility of another surgery + do physical therapy + sleep more and eat more healthily
