Hysterectomy Refferal

So... I had an appointment today with my Gynaecologist and we discussed having a full hysterectomy. He has referred me to another gynaecologist for a 2nd opinion. He said I need to understand the risks. This is something that I really want. Any tips on how to make this happen. Any advice would be appreciated x

Hallo, are you with a BSGE specialist? They are the best to give you treatment advice and to tell you the risks.

I found some info from the NHS: nhs.uk/conditions/hysterect... but it’s best to discuss these with an expert.

Like every treatment for this damned disease, you have to weigh up the risks against what you’re suffering from, and whether you can live with those risks.

I feel like it's taking over my life so willing to do it as quick as possible. I'm not under a specialist but will read the risks info. Thank you x

Just make sure you're not introducing a new set of problems into your life. Good luck! Xx

Hi, sorry to hear your difficulties . Are you using the nhs ? The nhs are reluctant to do hysterectomies unless you have tried everything on the list on the NICE website - ie coil, hormone pills, ablation. However, I looked at all the studies available and made it very clear at the appointments why certain treatments they wanted me to try had either not worked or would not work , I demonstrated to them I had done my research and read studies. Be strong- I had to fight for a hysterectomy and will be having mine next Saturday . Looking forward - although I feel lonely as the other half has walked out but calling on my friends for support . Good luck x

Oh sorry to hear that! I'm glad they are going to let you have a hysterectomy. Yes, I'm with the NHS and have a coil and had a lap in March but nothing is controlling my symptoms. I've just started a new job part time but it's hard with all this. Waiting for my appointment with another gynae for 2nd opinion. I will be be so deflated if they say no x

My consultant was the same and he persuaded me to try 6 months of zoladex with synthetic HRT to check it would help me. It took 4/5 months but I did feel better so he agreed. Then had to wait a year as had bowel involvement and needed 2 surgeons. I’m now 4 weeks post op - got there in the end! Be strong and as long as you can prove it’s the right option & why x

I'm pleased for you, I know this is right for me but have to convince them. It's just such a long process when you're struggling x
