I think it is very unlikely you would get a theatre for general anaesthetic and the procedure where there are no males present for one reason or another unfortunately.

i know the anaesthetist team would have males in it its the fact no one will talk to me about this

A registrar is a doctor. Like a consultant, just not quite as qualified. I'm assuming the registrar would be observing the consultant carrying out the procedure, as registrars have to observe in order to train. I'm not sure why the hospital can't help you, that seems very unfair.

Just wondering .... Your wife is the patient. Is she the one who is worrying about a male doctor (the registrar) assisting in the procedure or is this your concern?

If she has endometriosis I don’t see how she is going to be able to receive care in the UK without there being male surgeons, and probably male radiologists, involved at some point.

A registrar is a doctor at the stage of medical training just under the consultant.

generaly both our concern but my beef is they wont tell me what a registrar does or if he has to be there by law and i asked repeatedly and they did not explane this to us at preams or any time and only found out because i phone to say if the female gets called away not to send us a male and put is in a awkward position (wife,s concsen) she does not want to feel blackmailed in to going ahead with it . she has not got endometriosis she is having a biopsy because the doctor miss read the guidelines that says women that are over 45 are to be sent for biopsy when a tvuss comes back with results or is inconclusive but it came back clear but she says it will be at the back of her mind so she is haveing it done i have no problems with male radiologists, my issue is they were not going to tell us or ask and she asked for a female then to have a male watch is a clear violation of patient requests i could of gone private 10 weeks ago if they had just told us there will be a male present no matter what you say

If you're NHS you can contact PALS which I've been told can be very helpful if you're unhappy with the way the hospital has been communicating with you.

i have done i phoned them first thing yesterday but did not get back to me till late so it will be Monday now and im in leeds for next week on training so it will be on my mind and believe it or not i tend to get better info off here than the nhs

in reply tothelordsanger

Hopefully you will get some information on Monday. If the registrar is simply observing you should be able to refuse it if he's male.
