I am 40 years old and 3 weeks ago I had my 4th surgery for severe stage IV endometriosis. I had to travel to see an endometriosis excision specialist after my previous surgery 10 months prior, I was diagnosed with large bilateral Endometriomas. The endometriosis was very severe and everything was stuck together and there was also rectal endo. My specialist put in a Mirena after the surgery and I am wondering if anyone has had experiences after a major endo excision surgery and placement of the Mirena and if it helped or if your endometriosis returned in the form of Endometriomas or otherwise. I am so scared it is going to come back and am really curious to hear about other people’s experience with the Mirena and how long it took for the endo to come back. Thank you.

I had stage 4 RV endo. (nodule, adhesions, pelvic and bladder and utero sacral ligaments and ovary)
I didn't have a mirena as I didn't get on with it and 18 months on there is no evidence as yet of a recurrence.
This research paper on recurrence covers prophylactic use of hormone treatments so may be of interest.
There are statistics here on recurrence with various definitions and time periods. The figures are surprisingly good, but are higher if you class pain as recurrence but that can often be adhesions and nerve pain resulting from surgical intervention rather than strictly a clinical return of the disease. Some Endo types are more likely to return than others.
For Endo, None other than my diagnostic lap, in which an ovarian cyst was treated.
My biggest benefits were relief of backpain and bladder issues. My Bowel is much improved but I do have to be very careful and still sometimes have a bit of trouble, though that may also be due to a separate health condition.
