Battling endometriosis in Nigeria is hard

Hello all,

So I started the Endo diet immediately I got my diagnosis and I’m afraid I’m going to starve to death. 95% of Nigerian foods just encourage inflammation, so I’ve had to stop eating a lot of what we eat here. I mostly stick to fruits and vegetables, then turkey or chicken slices and eggs as my protein sources. Everything I’m supposed to eat regularly is so hard to find and very expensive here. I tried to look for gluten free oats today, I gave up. Yesterday I cried because I didn’t know what to eat for dinner. I don’t know any other Nigerian woman battling this (because they don’t talk) and so I can’t even talk to someone that understands what I have to deal with. I’m tired guys.

Hi Kembouz, it's definitely not easy but well done for wanting to try! I was recently diagnosed and have also been eating better. Try to keep it simple...I like steamed fish and vegetables as my go-to meal because its super easy and no hassle. Maybe that's something that could work for you too. Sticking to whole foods is a great idea. You can't go wrong with loads of vegetables. I've chosen to stop eating sugar, gluten and dairy and swapped vegetable oil for unrefined coconut oil. But there's no pressure...you could always start slow and try stopping one bad food at a time. Hope it goes well for you, keep smiling!

Hi Kembouz

It gets that way with food, I find myself stuck with what to eat as well at times.

It’s about finding a few recipes that you like, and batch making things. I make a green soup which is nice by blending things together and experimenting. Things like peas, kale, spinach, celery, onion, garlic, broccoli, with some dairy free cheese, water and mint, I make a big pan and I can get lots of meals out of it. Or if u can have brown rice, and flavour it with onion etc. Another is gluten free pasta and fresh tomatoe and basil, again with dairy free cheese.

I find when I’m hungry and not sure what to eat, having a handful of Brazil nuts is handy, or walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds. They have the protein in and omega 3 that all helps with inflammation, and should help you from wasting away.

You could also experiment with making wraps yourself etc. Using various flours such as rice flour or coconut flour etc ( I’m still experimenting on that one )

I realise it may be difficult to get all the ingredients, but maybe with the ones you can get, think about using them in different ways, like jacket potatoes, mash, wedges, homemade chips, roasties, or eggs. Scrambled, boiled, omelette, or egg and cress etc

Hope this has given you some ideas, and remember, your not alone in this. Many people share your exasperation.

Well done for trying tho x
