Hi Martha, I have cut out all fattening food such as crisps, sweets, anything with sugar in it. The first 2 weeks were hard but you get use to it. No white bread or pasta either, no fizzy juice or alcohol.
I was only officially diagnosed last month. But after a terrible past 18 mths of a major flare up including major bowel issues which seem to be linked. I cut out gluten (I had to do a few reintroductions as was tested for coeliac disease and every time it caused issues). I've tried to reduce sugar to but it's hard to cut completely. I've also noted that sadly red wine causes inflammatory problems for me. I rarely drink at all now. I have been A1 casin dairy free for 18yrs due to allergies anyway (that's cows milk- buffalo, goat and sheep are all ok as the protein is different). I read in the 'Period Repair Manuel' that this is common in endo sufferers.
Because my body has got so run down I tend to go down with lots of infections. I read about selenium which is important for our immune system and actually used to fight endometriosis in cattle. I switched my multivitamin to one containing it. I've noticed a big difference. My general health (aside from the endometriosis) is a lot better.
Like you I'm just educating myself and changing things to help myself as much as possible. Hope you find what works for you
I have been very sad to have been so desperate that I am transitioning to a plant based diet, that is gluten free, no alcohol, natural sugars where possible. Someone paid for a Life Coach to help me. She changed her life through this and is very inspiring. She has lots of tools that we use.
It could be that meat/dairy contain hormones and this messes us up because it somehow feeds the endo and helps it survive outside the uterus - not medically or scientifically trained over here. Or it reduces inflammation in the body and so the body can therefore begin to repair itself as it has more u-mph as inflammation is not there. Makes sense?
In 2017 I did a 2 week paleo diet and then reintroduced bread and it crippled me with gas, bloating, indigestion. I felt wonderful on the paleo diet and then the contrast was so stark I then went gluten free with some cheating and denial.....no gluten always reduces my endo pain as digestion works better without gluten - life changing.
Anyway.......I feel great on the going plant based diet and learning to cook in new ways is fun and hard on bad days. Most importantly I am beginning to feel the benefits of being less bloated, digestion working on full steam ahead and I feel cleaner inside, my skin is glowing, my nails are growing rapidly, my hair is think and a bit too thick even......LOL.
Change is hard until those neural pathways get established in our brains. I am in a medical menopause with backfill HRT awaiting hysterectomy at 45 with no birth children and never been pregnant. The waves of sadness are immense but I am alive and doing my best. I am enough x x x x x
