Hi all, just looking for some suggestions and guidance really.
I was officially diagnosed with stage 4 endo three years ago and underwent 2 laparoscopy's 6 months apart to treat it at that time. Due to complications where I had it on my bladder, I now have to do self-intermittent catheterisation as my bladder doesn't empty properly.
Unfortunately my endo has returned and so I am now back on painkillers etc and have got an appointment in a few weeks at the hospital to discuss further treatment (we would like to have a chance at starting a family which restricts treatment options).
I have been signed off work for the last 2 weeks due to the fatigue mainly and the pain which comes with the illness (1st time in 3 years that I have been off work with the illness and so I considethought myself fortunare in that regard).
I am due back in a couple of days and don't know if I can still manage full time at 35 hrs a week and I commute around an hr there and then an hr back again also.
Has anyone made a request for reasonable adjustments at there work before? I would consider working from home a few days a month during my peridod when the pain is at its worst but unfortunately this is not an option where I work.

Are you a member of the Union? If so see if there is a rep near you whom you can discuss your situation with as they'll be able to tell you what work can and should do to help. This then means you can actually ask for special circumstances. If you're not a member just google it, it's worth joining.
If you're in touch with your manage / HR you can request a call from occupational health; the consultant there can then assess your case and make suggestions to your manager. However these are only suggestions, work doesn't need to agree to them.
I went through the first route; and now have flexible working when I know I could be bad - endo is now around my period. So I can take time off and work it up later. It means it won't go on my sick record. It definitely helps to have endo logged as a disability with work so any recurrent sick days can be logged correctly if you definitely know they're endo sick days.
Get referred to OH and tell them that you can’t cope and let them know what you feel you would cope with such as reducing your hours or if you work 5 days compressing then to 4 day or changing your duties at work. Whatever you feel would work for you. OH always appear to be on your side. They put a report to your employer with what they think will help you and a copy goes to HR.
Be honest and tell them how your illness makes you feel, hope you have a supportive employer / manager x
I have reasonable adjustments in place to work from home when the pain is bad x but to be honest the best help I have had is that health is more important and my a manger and company have been really brilliant. My condition means that time off is inevitable but I don’t get penalised, it’s monitored and reviewed regularly but I’m never made to feel like I am doing something wrong. Hope you get some good support where you work xx
