My options now?

Have decided to stop my zoladex after 4 injections due to horrendous side effects and still having pain. Ive got a gynae appt on 24th june and just wondered if anyone could advise me on whats next? Im unsure and would like to be able to tell them rather than them say it's it. Thank you x

i recently finished a course of Zoladex and ended up switching consultants as the one who put me on Zoladex told me i was going back on the contraceptive pill afterwards. i cant go back onto it as it made my pain worse and i had more time off uni than when i wasnt on anything.

anyways i now have a new consultant and went to see the Endo Nurse Specialist to discuss general day to day management and we discussed other treatment options. i explained the above to her and she told me that she will see me again in 2 months time and if things are worse then we can discuss the pill again.

i have come to the conclusion that unfortunately this is all they can offer me until it is unbearable again and can potentially start a drug trial for a drug similar to Zoladex but in pill form. duno how i feel about it as Zoladex was horrendous for me too.....

they may suggest operating but generally they want to use that as a last resort (they dont want to operate on me again yet as am only 25).

i hope they can come up with something suitable for you that helps stop the pain x

Thank you. My hospital seems reluctant to do anything. I pushed for my diagnosis, then a year later I pushed for gynae appt and pushed for any treatment. Now im worried I wont have anything else to help. Im sp sick of the pain and may lose my job if I keep being off sick. :-(

i completely understand. i went to occupational health last year when things were at its worse and now i'm covered under disability so am protected. it may be worth exploring this with your employer too??

best of luck with your appointment. let me know how it goes x

Hi there. I had horrendous side effects from Zoladex once - made me really nauseous and so I ended up trying the Mirena Coil. If you're only having pain when you come on, the Mirena is an option. It is localised progesterone and so doesn't get into your blood stream like the Provera injections. Another option sometimes offered is to take the contraceptive pill back to back, without having any breaks. They reckon that does the same as Zoladex. There are other GnRH analogues too...sometimes you don't get on with one, but find another one tolerable. Prostap and Synarel are the only ones I know of, though I do believe there are trials for a new GnRH analogue taking place.

If the Zoladex helped your pain then think about giving another GnRH a try...

It's tough, I do understand. I'm embarking on my 4th or 5th round of Zoladex and am hoping that it will work its magic like it did before. Sometimes the hot flushes are worth it...if the pain goes away. Nausea, however isn't. If you want to ask more questions please feel free to IM me any time. Good luck with everything. Take care. A x

Thank you for your support x
