Hi

It depends on what method your consultant wants you to do - either drinking a solution (picolax or similar) or enemas. For my op a couple of weeks ago I was given picolax to drink and was a bit worried about it as everything i knew about it sounded horrid and a tad brutal, it was diet 2 days before op, then liquids only and 2 sachets the day before op but everyone said I wouldn't be able to travel until the morning after (day of op) and even then no more than a couple of miles - well I live 2.5 hrs from the hospital!! Not surprisingly it got changed to phosphate enemas, was admitted into hospital night before op and had one enema around 8pm and then another at 6am next morning with op at 8.30am - they were nothing to worry about at all, could eat normally beforehand, weren't particularly unpleasant and over within half an hour or so. If you've been given the sachets I can't give you any advice on those but I'm sure there are others here that can x

Hi,ive had the mova prep before and I found it best to drink it through a straw as it seems to go down easier. I tried to get a sleep as soon as I had finished it so I was prepared for being up all night. It obviously makes you run to the toilet but I didn't find it sore just uncomfortable. Hope it goes well x

Hi there

I too had the movi-prep and it was best chilled and drank through a straw too. Hold your breath if needs be! To be honest, the worst part is the prep. The procedure itself in my case was quick and painless (I opted for sedative). Best wishes x

Hi

I really hope it goes well for you and your recovery is good. I've just had 2 major ops to treat extensive stage 4 endo including deep infiltrating endo in ligaments and unsticking bowel, uterus, ovaries and ureters so I really feel for you especially with hysterectomy as well, just take it really slow and don't rush your recovery x

Hi, I have been diagnosed with severe level 4 and told that it may well be in my bowel too. Can I ask how you knew this - did you have any symptoms specific to bowel endo?

Thanks so much!

Hiya, I was taken into hospital for my bowel prep! I live a two hour drive one way from the hospital I was being treated in. I had picolax, it was harsh in hospital...try rushing to the loo while on a drip! Lol! It was awful...at one point I pushed past a lady in her 80s because there was only two toilets..one was being used and she was heading to the other! Not my proudest moment but I took her chocolates to make up for it!

I was only allowed clear food and fluids during this time so I just didn't eat! If your having the sachets it can only be a good thing but be prepared for an enema as well..not the most pleasant thing to have done, but the though of it is worse than actually having one!

You sound like your in the same boat as me... May I ask.. How did you decide a hysterectomy was best when you also have endo in your bowel? I've been offered a hysterectomy as well but I've also heard all sorts of conflicting info on how well it works if its in your bowel so I'm still not sure what to do.

Best wishes please let us know how you get on xx

Hi there.

I too had the movi-prep, and I won't lie....I found it all pretty hard going and even after drinking all the recommended liquid as well as the solution, I still wasn't completely empty on the morning of my colonscopy! I suppose the best way is just to take your time. If you try to gulp it you feel sick. It's not pleasant and I feel for you. I too am due to have a hysterectomy in around 3 months and it is the last resort really.

I wish you lots of luck and take it easy.

xx

Decided on hysterectomy as I have endo in uterus etc and after 13 yrs of suffeeing this final tr has really taken its toll, so only real answer plus endo in bowel and bladder, so major op all in one eeek xx
