I've seen a few people mentioning controlling endometriosis symptoms with diet... Where do you find the details for this diet?

I bought "Endometriosis: A key to healing through nutrition" by Dian Shepperson Mills from ebay for one penny!!! It is a tough, technical read in places, but I went through it with a highlighter and post-it notes.

I have been doing the diet now for about ten months. It has not helped me with the adhesions (I've had scans and it seems I need another surgery) but I am going to persevere with it because:

1. It has helped with the pain. My cycles are redder, not black, and less clotty. And it is a very wholesome diet which doesn't irritate the bowel so my toilet pain is WAY WAY WAY better.

2. It has helped with the tiredness.

3. It has helped my libido.

4. My skin, eyes, hair and nails are stronger, so I think my vital organs will gradually get healthier too hopefully.

5. It makes me feel that I can "do something" about my disease.

Hiya,

as Lilyloulou has said I posted the website that she has kindly posted again. I control both my endometriosis and my interstitial cystitis with diet because I personally don't want to take any hormonal based medications (personal choice, I think it works great for some people but not for me). It's very strict though if you do it right as it's mostly vegan with no gluten (which is in bread, pasta etc) or caffeine among other things either. I really recommend you read "Recipes and Diet Advice for Endometriosis" as a starting point by Carolyn Levett. The book has been really insightful and also made me think a lot differently about food. The recipes are quite nice too. The author is also the woman who created the website.

I also have a juicer and I have try to have one mostly vegetable based juice daily which really helps ease the pain off the bowels and overall has eased bloating.

It really works for me as I was fed up with feeling so bloated more than anything. Apparently women with Endo are also more likely to be sensitive to gluten so I think looking at your diet is a great idea.

I am gluten intolerant so have been on a gluten free diet for around 2 years now. We are ttc at the moment so hormone treatments are out and I am allergic to most pain killers, I also prefer not to take any medication anyway and always try to find a natural way to cope, that's why I started looking into the diet for this. Thanks for your help x

I forgot to say earlier.... My sister bought me an AMAZING wheat-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, caffeine-free cook book called "Its All Good". The author is Gwyneth Paltrow which was a surprise to me.

She also has a website of WF DF SF recipes called goop.com

(But for all USA recipes, you need a measuring scoop in their cups, which are available on ebay and amazon for a couple of quid.)

The other brilliant vegetable bible is the Abel and Cole cook book.
