URGENT advice needed re Powered Wheelchairs.

Hi all, firstly I hope you all had a great Xmas and New Year!!

I really need some advice ASAP re Powered Wheelchairs. I need to go into a powered wheelchair and could really use advice as to what type to get. I don't want to be in it every moment, as I still want to retain the use of my arms and legs for moving from wheelchair to bed, or chair etc but I need to be off my legs for the majority of the time I would be mobilising and doing daily tasks, as I'm in too much pain to remain standing, or even walking around my flat on a daily basis.

I'm considering an indoor outdoor wheelchair with a seat that raises up, in order to make a cup of tea, wash up, cook dinner etc however I'm wondering how practical they actually are for such activities, as are you even able to get close enough to the kitchen counter in order to do such things?

I also worry about being able to have everything I need with me when mobilising around my flat. I currently use a mobility rollator which has a tray and basket for moving everything with me and bringing the cup of tea/dinner with me to my chair.

I wonder would I be better with a regular height powered wheelchair and have my kitchen altered instead? Or should I have a portable wheelchair that folds down and can go into a car. 🤔

I've just moved into sheltered accommodation which is geared up for wheelchairs and scooters and originally thought I would get an indoor/outdoor scooter to get around in. The motability advisor I spoke however told me that scooters don't have a very good turning circle for use indoors, like a powered wheelchair has.

I would be so grateful for advice from anyone already using a powered wheelchair for both indoor and outdoor use, I need to get myself set up with one ASAP, as I'm in terrible pain and have been house bound since August 2019.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Claire 😁👍
