I've found that I have trouble phrasing sentences and stumble over the simplest words. Has anyone else found that this happens ?

At times I am certain I sound positively drunk my speach goes so wonky.

then trying to remember certain words can lead to an odd game of charades....

"Big thing..has wheels..people pay to go on it and it takes you to places"

"Train?"

"No..used to be red most of the time"

"BUS!!?!!"

"Thats the one!"

I am so glad I'm not the only one who does this, the boyfriend finds it hilarious.

OMG you just made me giggle as that sounded just like me!! So frustrating when we seem to lose or "misfile" words in our brains!!!

Hi,

I know this problem soooo well! It might sound funny, and at times it can be funny and I end up laughing myself, but the frustration is Something Else, entirely. My Son is the Only person who can read me, when it comes to myself trying to phrase something, but he has to work so I can find it incredibly difficult when a stranger speaks to me, and I'm unable to provide an adequate answer. So, you are definitely Not Alone, with this symptom.

Thanks, it can be infuriating when your in a rush and can't get your point across

An all too familiar occurrence for me. It is variable, so worse in morning , evening and winter - that doesn't leave an awful lot of time left! Wherever possible I try to rehearse my lines beforehand but even then I can fluff my lines! At it's worst with cold call conversations with strangers, shops and generally dealing with the public. If I phone someoneI find making notes beforehand helpful. I do find it very frustrating but I try not you let it worry me. Just one of the many aspects of this illness that we have to work round!

Sometimes I just have to stop and start again because the more I try to correct myself the worse I get

Just yesterday the girl who shares my office pointed out it was time to go home for a sleep as i just couldnt find enough correct words to even form a sentance. I work 8 to 2.30 to enable me to get an afternoon sleep. When i am not feeling well this is one of the first symptoms to appear.

Definitely the first symptom I notice on a bad day.

Yes, this occurs for me because the toxins from a virus have collated in my brain so when you go to get the word, its either not there, or you are diverted to another word which inevitably pops out if you are in conversation making you look silly and drunk. I have much improved in this area due to two approaches. One is to chat to myself in advance of any important conversations I know I need to have (doctors or garage) to check all the vocabulary I need is in the right place to find it again. This gives me time to find any words, or indeed check definitions in the dictionary if I have apparently forgotten what simple words mean! Secondly I use a program called Luminosity online which gives me brain exercises daily and has strengthened my vocabulary again by rewiring and repetition. Good luck.
