i have ckd level 3 and just wounderd on how to notice when things go wronge the symptom,
I think that if you are in a lot of pain, the first thing to do is to see your doctor; if you haven't already. any new prolonged pain should always be checked out. They should be able to determine what is causing your pain, whether it is something to do with your back or a kidney infection for example. All the best.
Hi Bennybo, It would be a good idea to visit the doctor again and get a diagnosis. You may require some tests which the doctor can organise. if it is only muscular, your doctor might be able to offer you some pain relief which is suitable for your kidney function level.
Best wishes,
Hi I too only have one kidney and the one that is working is only at 30%. I have quite a lot of dull pain in my back but my gp says this is not due to my kidney. am not going to renal consultant until december. Hope you get some answers from this site
Hi Boyce
I just wondered how ur managing as I have only one kidney now and it works at 32% so similar to you? What symptoms do u suffer with? Mine is kidney ache and tiredness & headaches with high blood pressure? B good to know if it's similar to u
Thanks
I do get symptoms but my doc says it isn't my kidney, not sure if I believe him i;m going to see specialist on monday. I get really tired and do have back ache in lower back not all the time pain killers help a little afraid I resort to hot water bottle for comfort. I get restless legs at night so don't always sleep well. my worst symptom is constant muscle fatigue. I don't know if this helps you how did you come to having one kidney? it really is nice to chat to someone in the same boat as me
Hi, I seem to have the same situation as you, one kidney and only 30% function of that. I have been told I am border line stage 4 CKD. I get lots of dull pain in the lumbar region the renal clinician told me that this is perfectly normal, (so too is the stop start function of poor little Sidney kidney, It all depends upon the mood he is in - some days he wants to work some days he doesn't. I get the impression that there is little interest, could it be because of my age, at 66 I am no spring chicken). I have yet to determine how the renal people determine what is "normal" - coz I ain't never been that.
Boycie, when I get dull pain in my back (around the bottom of my ribs) it normally means that I have an infection in my kidney(s) you should be asking for tests. Urine test don't always show them up as they are too high, so ask for a CRP (blood) test this will show your infection levels.
thanks all wow what a kick in the teeth to find this news out .but with advice and help off you guys then i can start to look forward to living with it .
other question is .do any of you get any benifit help .i am self employed as a gardener and worried if things went wronge is there help now or later cheers ..mark
hi have u applied for dla.
if not apply for it, rem to give ur worst day. U can work so many hours and still apply for dla.
dla i mean
u are not thick. dla = disabiliity living allowance. I recommend that u make an appointment with Citizens Advice. Keep a diary of ur day eg how far u can walk, how u get tired, how long it takes u 2 walk, I have a condition called vasculitis, am on a list of medication, keep a record of when u see u consultant, dr. i have been attending my consultant since last oct. c him every 2 weeks. Keep record of when u are admitted to hospital, u are always asked about hospital apps. if u use any aids to get about. hope this is of some use.
Can you recall doing anything to pull your back? If not then chances are you could have an infection - get your tail off to the quacks - and don't forget to take a fresh urine sample - they are quite keen on having those. I was born with a kidney disease and I too have only one left (actually it is the right one) ticking over around 30%. but, as they say in the Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.............DON'T PANIC - don't know why they always say it in big letters - I guess because panicking gets us nowhere. I am guessing by your name that you are of the male persuasion, which leads me to think that like most occupants of Mars you don't like going to the quacks. Be brave young man (or if I am wrong woman) the answers are out there, go see them. Good luck.
