Well here I am at Salford royal (hope hospital) I have to work full time so I can pay the bills and look after my family. It's full of old people who have nothing better to do why don't they use common sense and book them later in the day so people who have to work can come first thing and carry on and go to work.
Frustrated: Well here I am at Salford... - Early CKD Support

I have a lovely relationship with the receptionists (mind you I have worked on having one!) at both Leicester Royal & general in the relevant departments & they always ask me "early or late?" With the last one they even remembered & asked you back at work, would later in the morning be better? Never had a problem myself!
i agree with you hospitals and gps do not take into consideration the minority who actually work for a living. my apointments are usually 2.30-3.00 which means i have to take at least 1/2 day off work as i live 25 miles away from the clinic. i also have to use public transport. on the other hand i had to protest during the winter because the appointment was getting later and later as late at 6pm which meant that i had to get back home on public transport on my own in the dark and in not very good weather. i know that sounds a bit wussy but i am not used to it.
Sorry to sound like I'm moaning i just feel common sense has disappeared from this country and were all to worried of saying the wrong thing. There should be an easier way than havingto take half a day of work, paying a fortune to park your car only to sit there for 2 hours to then be seen by a different doctor than last time ask you the same questions and not give you any answers oh and then change your meds which cost a small fortune unless of course you don't work you get picked up or a refund for travelling there and all your meds are free.
In the days when you got your appointment as you left Yeovil District like Happy-Traveller I could pick when I wanted my appointment, however they have now changed the system and I get one sent to me directly from Dorchester to be seen in Yeovil which did cause a problem whilst I was still working, I am now to ill to work I hate being home its so boring!
I also agree with buryboy you should be able to contact them as ask that you have an earlier appointment as you work.
It seems each health authority has their own system. But even when I have an appointment sent to me or I need to see a specialist and it's done on line I can still change the time if I need. Maybe I'm lucky & we have a good system in that respect. Always ask though!
As for being bored, I've been off for 10 months now & never been busier! Thousands of little things to do! Even looking at doing voluntary work / joining a reenactment society! There's lots to do!! Try some fundraising maybe?
Speak to the receptionist about your appointment times. I appreciate you having to work but just maybe, the Old people dont question the times of there apps and take what is given without question.. Being an Old person myself I generally have an afternoon appointment because I requested one. I'm sure your receptionist will try to accommodate you at a more convenient time to suit your busy lifestyle..
I very rarely get a choice over appt times, but for things like iron infusions the nurse will always see to me immediately upon arrival before any of the older patients who may have been waiting longer, as he appreciates I am taking time off work.
I am a patient at Countess of Chester, and would love to see an appointment system online so I could check times, change any appts I can't make etc instead of always having to try and get hold of someone to speak to.
My other gripe is the amount of time spent in each consultation going over my history (regardless of how many times I have seen the particular consultant) - I realise they have many patients and can't recall everyone's details but this should be factored in and the consultant given time to read notes prior to the appt.
Think I was having a bad day.just worried about what the future has in store for me.
