The doctor has said I could have kidney stones but because the pain is very mild it’s not an immediate concern as it’s the weekend. I should try and ride it out until my blood tests and scan next week unless it gets severe.

kidney stones
HI Kim,
The issue with kidney stones is there is little they can do to help you right now. Drink lots of water and see if you can pass them. I took Tylenol, but it really did not do much.
I know it sounds gross, but if you have a fine mesh strainer, pee through that to see if you can catch the stone.(s) The reason is they will want to analyze what type of stone it is. There are different kids and depending on what, will make a difference in how you can prevent them. For example, oxalate stones you need to cut down on things such as spinach. Urate stones can be treated with medications. I passed over 30 stones, some very tiny, others quite large. Never went to the hospital. Matter of fact, I passed 5 mm stone at work. However, by not getting on medications such as allopurinol sooner, the stones in my kidney severely damaged them. Make sure the doctor follows up and does something.
Thank you for your response. I was worried because Dr Google would have you think you need to be immediately taken care of. My doctor seemed pretty calm about it. So it’s quite normal for kidney stones to cause pretty mild symptoms?
Depends how large they are. But what do you think even sand rumbling around in your kidney and urethra is going to do to it? I passed usually after a big stone a ton of what they call gravel. Not sure if it was just a lot of little stones or a big stone broken up. They did not do shock therapy on me so I think it was just little stones. I'd pass like a teaspoon of them. When I knew I had a stone, I always used a sieve to catch them. I have a box of them. Do not let the doctor dismiss them. They do because once they start to travel out there is little to be done about it except surgery and they do not usually do it.
Things to be aware of..... your temperature rising. NO voiding or very little pee. Severe pain, which can certainly happen. I remember when my first husband, who was a jerk, had one, friggin ONE stone, he went to the hospital. You would think he was having a baby. Big burly cop and a kidney stone laid him out. Wus!
Stuck stones can cause hydronephrosis " swelling in the kidney" due to blocked urine flow. I currently have moderate hydronephrosis in 1 kidney due to stuck stones that I've had for 2 years. I recently passed an 8mm sized stone after a 7 day supply of Flomax. I've been battling stones for years though. Blocked stones can lead to kidney damage/failure. My urine flow had been very weak for 2 years. Stones can be stuck for years. In males, the urethra is much longer, about 20 cm (7 to 8 inches) in length compared to a females which is only 3 to 4 cm (about 1.5 inches) long. Yours has a shorter trip down victory lane.
