I am new here and just have some questions. I have had excessively high blood pressure for years and working on trying to control it now but when looking at my lab results, I noticed that when I was 49 my efgr was 78 and 2 years later shortly before I turned 51 my efgr was 58. I have had a few Dr's as they have either quit or quit taken my BCBS insurance and so I had the fun of having to find a new Dr. Long story short no Dr has said anything to me about these results. I have found a Dr again finally and have an appt in 2 weeks to see what he says. But I just want to know from you all is it normal to have a decline like this?

Without checking vs available guidance, it seems your decline is faster than it ought to be for age related. But you seem to have found the likely cause with high BP (that and diabetes are the main ones). So controlling that should help as will diet improvement which you can get via this forum
Obviously all the egfr levels your mentioned are a bit below what is considered normal.A change in numbers, from one test to the next is not unusual. A lot of things influence your egfr test such as the medications you take. If your hydration levels were the same for both tests. What you even ate prior to both tests. And even if all conditions were the same, we all get a variation in our egfr level, that is not unusual. Yours is a bit wider a variation. Also which test is right?? Best way to find out, get another blood test in a month or so and see where you are at. Blood pressure is one of the worst things for you kidney, especially at a below normal egfr. You seem to be saying that you are trying to control it, but as of now have not done so. Then this is likely a huge contributor to the worsening of your egfr. You MUST get that bp under control. Find that new doctor as soon as possible. Get the bp under control. The new doctor will likely do blood work as you are a new patient. Limit your salt, protein, potassium and phosphorous intake while waiting for the next doctors appointment.
Do you know or have a ballpark of how high your bp was?
