Hi reddog49

Take a look at this list of questions to ask and things to consider at your appointment. Not all of them will be relevant, but will give you some pointers. There is a downloadable pdf document to the right of the web page:

I typed a list of questions and wrote down answers to each and every one. Fortunately, the second nephrologist was very patient. I asked if I could have contrast with CT scans, how fast to progression, how much fluid per day, how much sodium per day, will I need a renal dietician, results of my prior labs, and a list of some of my new meds to see if they were contraindicated with kidney disease as well as many other questions!

The best thing you can do is ask for a referral to a good Nutritionist. In the beginning, I had no clue as to what I could eat safely. I tried eating what I found to be recommended, but until I had my hair sample sent to a place in Germany to tell me what I needed for my body, I really was at a loss. After following the advice written in my report that the company sent back to me after analyzing my results from the hair that my nutritionist put on her phone and sent to the company, I was able to raise the percentage that my one kidney ( I lost the other to cancer) I raised the percentage from working at 31 percent to 51 percent. My Dr was amazed and very pleased and so am I. It took me two years before I was smart enough to see a nutritionist. This may change your life for the better.

I wish you the best.
