We don't need to worry because worrying only makes it worse. We just need to be there for one another

Hi

There's always someone here to ask. Did spellcheck change your post?

Is your egfr 56? If so it's only just below 60. I've been told that above 60 is normal regarding kidney function and levels do fluctuate.

In UK creatinine levels are given differently. ....

Here's a link which might help you to compare your readings....

medicinenet.com/creatinine_...

Perhaps you could have a chat with your doctor to see what your readings mean for you.

Hoping it all works out for you.

Best wishes

At age of 44, numbers are not the best. However, there is much you can do to imcrease your gfr and lower your creatinine. I am 77 and was able to do both after diagnosed. Drink sufficient water, eat a kidney healthy diet, exercise moderately.

Have you have your numbers explained by a doctor? Have you seen a nephrologist? In the meantime, educate yourself:

DaVita Kidney Disease and Dialysis Forums is well known for their recipes but they also have a forum for patients too.

Renal Support Network provides many support and advocacy services including a phone support line.

AAKP is a comprehensive resource focusing on the quality of life for kidney patients through education, advocacy, patient engagement and the fostering of patient communities.

National Kidney Foundation provides a portal for patients too.

Come back to this forum as you have additional questions. Many wise people here.

Good luck!

Lowraind would you mind sharing your GFR and creatinine level?

Also how long have you been at this level?

Hi Margie,

I was diagnosed last November, so it is almost a year. I was 76 years old at the time. My egfr was 36.6 and my creatinine was 1.4. After not getting much information from my first nephrologist, I began my own searches in order to educate myself. I have had high bp for many years, so that was one cause. I also have osteo arthritis--again, long term and for many years I was taking Celebrex daily--2nd cause. I have never been good about drinking water regularly and when I worked full time, I would get so involved in what I was doing that I know I was dehydrated much of the time--3rd cause. I have been pretty good about watching salt amounts, so that is a good thing.

Because I was not satisfied with my first nephrologist, I asked for another one (in the same practice). Still not sure if that was a good move or not, because it seems to be their motto--"there is not really much you can do". Well, through my own research and through much good advice on this site, I did do something. One of the authors I discovered was Mathea Ford who is a renal dietician. Two of her books are Living with Chronic Kidney Disease--Pre Dialysis and Create Your Own Kidney Diet Plan: Build a Meal Plan for Stages 3-4 Renal Disease. Following her plan, I controlled the sodium, potassium, phosphorous and protein that I ate. At my next appointment, three months later, my egfr was 54 and creatinine 1.0. It has stayed there for my next appointment, also. If it is still there when I return in November, I will not have to return for six months, this time.

You will hear people who say that you do not need to control all of those things. Yet, when people get to stages 4 & 5, they tell people to control those things. So, I firmly believe that if I do it now, I will not reach stages 4 & 5. Many, doctors included, do not agree. However, I am my own proof.

I do not go along with everything that is on the internet, I know there are quacks out there. However, when I have enough information and I see my own results, then I am a believer.

Hope this helps,

lowraind

Never give up if you feel like there's something wrong than there is something wrong believe me. 7 months ago everyone told me there was nothing wrong with me I was a mental case. In March 2019 I got deathly sick dehydrated all that I called the ambulance they did a cat-scan in my abdomen guess what I have a 3 ml kidney tumor I am lucky to be close to Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota that's where I'm doctoring at and they're going to be freezing my tumor
