I got my blood test back eGFR 62 and creatinine 1.35. Bun 15. I am 47 year old non black. Doctor says I am fine. I am just inside range for eGFR and creatinine. I am very worried. I read that any decrease in GFR cardiovascular events are more likely. Should I be concerned.

No, there is no reason for concern. Anything above 60 is good. It’s true that there can be cardiovascular problems when suffering from CKD but you’re not even close to the danger zone. Right now my eGFR is 25, which is stage four. Because of the extreme stress in my life (I am my mother‘s caregiver as well as suffering from bipolar disorder) he told me he is more concerned about me dying from a heart attack than kidney failure. Of course, he told me that when I was at an eGFR of 40.

My suggestion is to monitor your blood pressure daily. Keep a log of it and share it with your doctor during your visits. Controlling your blood pressure is one way to monitor your cardiovascular health. If you’re really worried, you can start to see a cardiologist. But as I said before, you don’t have anything to worry about at this point so I’d relax. You should simply hydrate, limit sodium, stop drinking dark sodas and just keep an eye on that BP.

Best of luck.
