keeping yourself dehydrated is very important doing all the things you say can help & improve it also depends on the cause of your ckd
Keeping yourself hydrated and following a healthy low sodium diet suitable for people with poor kidneys is the best thing you can do. You can google to find advice on diets or have a look on this forum. But to what extent it will improve your kidney function depends on many things. You have not told us what level you are at so I can only be general. For example, if you are at stage 3 I have known people make vast improvements in their kidney function by lifestyle changes (cut out salt, stop smoking, reduce weight, drink more water) but if you were at late stage 4 then I don’t know if even the most radical changes to your diet will improve kidney function. That said changing your diet and maintaining a good blood pressure will almost certainly extend the life of your kidneys which can only be a good thing. Of course as phillen suggests it is also dependent on what the underlying cause of the kidney problem is.
I am stage 4 PKD and I made the changes and I raised my GFR. From12 to 15 in 3 months and I'm not stopping there! I believe God led me to find the program I put myself on and it is working!!
Well done Bunkin. God loves a trier! Keep doing whatever you are doing if it is working for you. I am at stage 4 as well (down to my last 18%!) and have been stable for 12 months which I put down to cutting out adding salt. (before I was diagnosed with CKD I used to have a lot of salt on everything) I drink a lot more mineral water and try to drink about 2 litres a day. I have cut out sodas like cola and lemonade and also practically cut out coffee. I don't have red meat anymore.
Thanks rabbit01, it has definitely been a life changing experience so far. Have been down a lot but today after joining this site, I feel better! If I can keep climbing I know I can avoid dialysis😀 Also I believe God will use this to help someone else. I'm so grateful that I found the program I've been following, hopefully my doctor, whom I haven't met yet will be as excited about my progress as I am!!
