I can understand your pain. This is very common in western world. Im an indian muslim, my father gfr is 29 im the only son im ready to give my one kidney to him.
Oh, I know it's easy for me to say, but I think you'll be fine. The transplant should give you a normal life expectancy to see your son grow up. I don't understand why your siblings are afraid, as they would live normal lives after giving you a life-saving kidney. I have a good friend whose gfr is similar to yours; she is starting home peritoneal dialysis, and was told that it could potentially make her gfr better, and she might not need the transplant. Good luck to you; there are kind souls who donate kidneys to strangers, and I hope one comes around for you soon. Take care.
Peritoneal dialysis only works for so long the gfr improves a little but as your kidneys fail totally my hubbys gfr now with his dialysis is 6 to 7 dialysis only gives you the bare minimum of function about 5% your friend would need a transplant best to go on the list before you start dialysis as the average wait is 3 to 4
Thanks. My friend is on the list, but not able to transplant yet. she has kept her gfr up for years via diet, but then got sick and everything went downhill. She has a relative ready to donate a kidney, fortunately.
Thats good news hopefully your friend will soon be well enough my hubby is still not able to go on the list yet as he has had a host of other problems he's getting there though, the PD has worked well for him for 5 years so far!
Hi, I'm in a similar situation, I'm 40, I have 6 brothers and 3 sisters, countless adult nephew and nieces but not one person has come forward to offer help, ive only been on the list a couple of months my gfr is 13: it's tough, but try and park that upset with them in the park of your mind until u get the transplant you can deal with the family later, you need to try and think positive thoughts healthy mind makes it a little easier on the body, good luck to you, you can do this!
my husband has been on Preitoneal dialysis for 5 years dialysis keeps you going untill you can get a transplant there is no reason that you won't see your son grow up if you look after yourself the best you can! don't be afraid try to stay positive sometimes transplants don't take or last long but sometimes they last many years 40 some people! take care
It's a shame your brothers and sisters will not put themselves forward to donate. I have been through all the tests to be a live donor and am excited that I will be able to donate to my daughter. I wish you all the best. X
I wish you well. I had a kidney removed and after the first week it was not too bad at all. Maybe someone from the donor kidney organisation could speak to your family and explain what it means.
Hi my sister refused giving me a kidney in case she needed it herself and her blood group is an odd one. There was no one else. I was put on the list then went on dialysis and taken off the list due to a heart problem. That sorted and back on the list. I had a pancreas and kidney transplant in august my eGFR was down to 8 when I was on dialysis. I was told the waiting list is shorter for the SPK tx. But don't give up a tx will come when you least expect it. You will still be there when your child has children of their own. It is tough at the moment but it gets better. Most family members aren't always a match it's tissue type and blood type and z lot of different factors. Stay strong your time will come xxx
