Does anyone know what Acute kidney injury on CKD means, my renal consultant put this on my letter to my Doctor.

I was referred for a KUB ultrasound scan, which showed several cortisol cysts. I saw my renal consultant at the end off December, who advised me about my diet and said he would see me again in four to six weeks, I had an appointment in March, which has since been delayed until April, i am a bit worried because it will be nearly four months, before I see anyone again. My egfr level was 23 which rose to 25 within a few days, my creatine high, which also fell a bit.

Acute is sudden chronic is when you suffer from an illness over a period of time for instance my husband suffered chronic kidney failure steadily getting worse over a period of about 20 years then he developed acute failure (reasons unknown) where he went from stage 3 to stage 5 & on dialysis within 2 months the egfr & creatine levels should improve! this is probably what they think very often you get a fair amount of improvement when something is acute but not normally if something is chronic as like i say its a steady decrease if you start feeling worse don't be afraid to go back to your GP they will soon get you on the renal ward if needs be thats what they did with my hubby!

Thanks for your reply, it's helped explain a lot, I am just confused, nothing has really been explained, I suppose they don't know my baseline levels, until I go again in April.

just try not to worry yourself my hubby says he thinks it makes things worse he thinks if they need to see you they will fit you in so try not to worry he was slotted in at the end of the consultants clinic on several occasions yes they don't seem to explain much at all i think we have learned a lot since my hubby went into total renal failure he has a renal homecare nurse & she explains about anything you want to know we felt the same it a shame as my hubby was never told anything then in the end when he went downhill we now see a dieticien have a home care nurse & see the renal consultant every 3 months we also have several phone numbers for the renal unit where you can speak to anyone 24 hours a day so you seem to go from nothing to everything all at once!

Thanks for your post, sorry to hear about your husband hope he his doing okay. Your right about worrying it makes things seem worse. It's just knowing what I can eat and drink, and any medications I can take, and if I should have been referred to a dietician.
