Yes - any scarring on the kidneys indicates damage - hence kidney disease. I was told that both my kidneys are small and badly scarred and am now at Stage 4 CKD with an eGFR of 15%. No definitive reasons given as to what caused the damage but probably urine infections/kidney infections which went undetected/untreated.

hya viviola,i know the reason why i have a scarred kidney its due through having a really bad kidney infection when i was 3yrs old and i started to bleed, they didnt do much for it except put me on strong antibiotics for it,well then they didnt do scans they did xrays,i found out i had a scarred kidney in 2010 and now i have chronic kidney disease stage 3

Hi Maxwell18. I know stage 3 sounds really scary but believe me when I say that there is a lot you can do to prevent further deterioration. Keep a check on your weight, diet and unfortunately most things that we all enjoy. If you manage this carefully you could remain at Stage 3 for sometime to come. Don't be afraid to ask questions and try not to stress too much. Take advantage of the flu jab and try and keep as healthy as possible. If you have any worries seek advice and there are plenty of people here that you can turn to, Good Luck x
