Related to Dystonia?

I have suffered from Fixed Functional Dystonia for probably about 5/6 years, and before that many other health problems. At current I get intense pains in my stomach which topple me over and sometimes make me unable to do much else. It appears like a lump (drs originally thought in my ovary) on my left side. This often makes me sick and can make me faint with the pain. Does anyone else with forms of Dystonia have anything like this?

I have dystonia, but not your symptoms. So I have been doing some research and wonder if some of my muscle cramps and other symptoms are caused by artificial sweeteners - especially Splenda (Sucralose). Knowing that Splenda can cause major digestive problems, I am wondering if this could be your cause too. I don't know how accurate this list is, but if you use Splenda or NutraSweet (aspartame) you might want to check this out:

If you are concerned about these sweeteners or any other foods causing your symptoms, you can do a challenge diet. Eliminate the food from your diet for 2 weeks. Then consume a lot of it in one day to see if the symptoms get worse.

Hi, Tid,

I dont tend to eat much with sweetners in, but its interesting to hear that people are finding different triggers. I will watch out for that one.

Have you tried taking Magnesium? I was getting dystonia in one foot, and severe leg cramps at night. I now take Magnesium Citrate before bed and it helps a lot. I take two 250mg capsules. Start with one as it is a natural laxative and muscle relaxant. Magnesium Citrate is a little more expensive than some other forms of Magnesium, but it is absorbed better.

I also occasionally take one of two different prescription muscle relaxants if I need more help:

Daytime - Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg

Night time - Methocarbamol 750mg

No I don't have stomach problems and don't know if this is a dystonia symptom. Mostly just left foot and lately fingers on left hand are sometimes very stiff when I first wake up.
