I have just confided in my daughter (19) about my drinking. She is such an amazing young woman, so supportive. I was so embarrassed but she was so cool about it. I really feel now that I can beat this crap reliance on wine. I feel blessed and totally ready.

How many units a week are you drinking ? Always good to share an issue, now you will be compelled to act. Maybe book an appointment with a GP and tell them the same thing, get some momemtum to face the issue.
I am not ready to go to a GP just yet, telling my daughter was embarrassing enough. Now she knows and also lives with me, I need to stick to this so, I will give myself a couple of weeks of hard graft and if I fail for her, I will most definitely go to my GP, it will be my last hope.
How much do you drink ? I went to my GP and it was relieving.
A few bottles of wine a week. I will see how I go but if I just can't do it on my own then the GP will be the next person I tell.
A few bottles wont hurt, but its the escalation you need to be mindful of. Good for you for realising you have growing desires for wine.
Oh I know I do, I look forward to a glass to relax after the day but I think I will need to choose something else that is a bit better for me.
Can totally relate, when you have the support of a family member the journey towards sobriety is easier. Stay positive.
It's always difficult explaining difficulties with alcohol, especially to family members, you've got over a hurdle here and it's a question of perhaps setting some goals in the perhaps,I had a major drinking problem, and I had to have counselling for my ptsd issues which were the root cause behind my drinking. Every person has a way with dealing regarding alcohol, there's moments where you might have pangs of guilt regarding drinking, and at the beginning of becoming " sober" this is when you could be more vulnerable and reach towards a bottle, but you seem to be managing, having support is a great way to stay away from the temptation of a " relaxing " bottle of wine, I dunno if it's a social thing or even a routine that let you slip into the way of drinking, it almost becomes a habit, a bit like brushing your teeth.
Well if and when you feel comfortable approaching your doctor for a general well-being health check I'm sure you'll feel better both mentally and physically, oh and don't forget the financial aspect, nobody wants any lectures and you can cherry pick all the information that you think might help you,and I'm sending best wishes on your journey, thanks Chris 😊
