Moderation, it might work.

Haven't had any massive fails lately but haven't been completely sober either. I've been averaging 20 units of vodka per week spread over three days. Don't know if other countries use the same unit of alcohol measurement so that equates to half litre or one pint. Still above recommended level but a vast improvement on my past intake of three litres plus per week. I know that I will always have to be vigilant as it can easily slip back to what it was but for now I am happy. Good luck to everyone with your own battles.

I tried for almost 15 years. It never worked. Like the book says:

All of us felt at times that we were regaining control, but such intervals—usually brief—were inevitably followed by still less control, which led in time to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization.

We believe we were regaining control........Thats what happened to me.

Good luck with your experimentation.

Enjoy your reprieve. If you get worse, remember there is a solution.

Sadly... half measures availed me nothing but going right back to a binge....

Glad you are drinking at a safer level. Gradual reduction may be the way.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post, I know that I am treading a very fine line and that I could easily revert back to the old me. I think it is the dream of every drunk to be able to behave like normal people around booze. Just hope that I'm not back here in a few weeks telling you all about how I failed. Best wishes all.

If you’re a real alcoholic, chances are you will be eventually. The disease always won out. No matter how (or what) I tried. But keep up the good fight. I had to do that before I could surrender.

That’s really great progress compared to your post the other week. I attempted an AF holiday week with my family this week but totally failed. However, I did lots of running and swimming in the mornings and outdoor coastal activities and only drank, and not to excess, in the evenings. I’ve had a brilliant week. Keeping busy and enjoying things in life makes a massive difference.

Wondering you are doing?

Managing to keep the drinking down to every 4th or 5th day ,but honestly it is not always easy, by day 3 I'm beginning to think to hell with it ,I need a drink. I haven't been drinking nearly as much on the days that I do drink, about 250ml vodka or a bottle and a half of wine usually, thats a big improvement for me. It's a constant challenge and I'm not sure that I can keep it up indefinitely. Thanks for asking, how are you doing on your alcohol free journey?

Fortunately the obsession for be has been removed long time ago. But I have to work on my character defects. The ego is cunning. Occasionally it resurrects. I got to keep the ego deflated.
