If one has already tried moderation and couldn't, chances are that person will never be able to moderate. Thats the hard truth that one has to swallow. Only solution is abstinence. However if one has progressed along to a point of no return, the only solution is a spiritual solution. So if anybody reading this, has tried abstinence on your own and couldn't stay stopped, you probably will be greatly helped by 12 steps AA.

Thank you for this post, I have to admit, I've run out of ways to say the same thing over and over about drinking vs. not drinking. Admitting you have a problem is the first step, but taking action is the next one, and it's big...it was tough for me to put the bottle down, but I never found any answers to my emotional problems at the bottom of a bottle, only misery.
I feel like I've told my own story so many times, that there isn't much more I can say, so I applaud those of you who keep saying the things we all need to hear, whether your thinking about sobriety, or have a number of years of sobriety, we are still only one drink away. So one day at a time has a lot of meaning to many of us...we know, we never stop being an alcoholic.
