Here we go again...

I'm drinking way too much daily, tonight I decided to not drink it was hard! But we did it. We being my partner and me. It's become a habit of ours to drink si ce we got together 3 years ago. We are both going through similar break ups previously and it seems this was how we coped along with it being a social thing in the beginning. We share a couple of bottles of wine every night. I feel ashamed! 😪 any advice is welcome, glad to be here!

It's obvious your thinking about drinking may not be what you want, and trying to drink less, and are feeling out your emotions around this, but don't feel guilty or beat yourself up about it. The day may come when you take all the bottles out of the house and make a choice not to drink for yourself, as far as your partner goes....they have to make their own choice. It's hard to understand at first...but you have to not drink alone, not a team effort. You can be in a sober relationship, but making that choice not to drink has to be individually made. I've tried before to not drink for someone else...and it never worked....just don't rely on anyone else but you.

Welcome to the Drink Free community. You can receive support her with your struggles with alcohol. Try some controlled drinking. If that doesn’t work for you, you may be powerless over alcohol. If that’s the case, there is treatment available. Just be as honest as you can be with yourself.

Keep posting and let us know how you’re doing.

It does help to be working at it with a partner. It will bring its own stresses when one is tempted to fall off the wagon. But that’s nothing compared with one who carries on regardless, or even encouraging the other to drink again. Well done!
