hi. I’ve just joined. I drink far too much and desperately want to cut down. I think I should stop completely but don’t know if I’m ready to make that commitment. I associate alcohol with having fun. And I reach for it if I’m stressed or angry or upset. Last week I managed 5 alcohol free days. But then ruined it by drinking heavily at the weekend. So trying again this week and taking it a day at a time….

It doesn’t sound like you had fun at the weekend.

Welcome to this community. We all have issues with alcohol. Some of us have stopped drinking all together. And there are others who work on moderating. This is a great place to be.

It works best if you keep coming back to the site to report your progress (or lack thereof). Just try not to drink today, since it sounds like you may have reached your limit over the weekend.

We’re here to help. Fighting with alcohol is best done as a group.

hi i can relate to that maby just get a bit in or if you go out to drink dont go wean yourself off i can drink in moderation most the time and have more nights not drinking now but im always a step away from over doing it the next upsetment the next celebration maby, the next trip to supermarket will i risk buying wine, i hope not as thats the main problem with me cant keep lid on, read through the posts, were all similar in many ways on here 🤗

so similar to my relationship with alcohol !

I can now not drink in the week & try not to think of social drinking as ruining it but controlling it ! Don’t be too hard on yourself !💪🙏❤️

thank you for your support. I’m feeling good at the moment because I’m back in control. But I know there’s a long road ahead. And this is just the beginning. But I’ve managed some drink free nights which were a challenge. And finding that self motivation spurs me on.

Hi - if you have been a heavy drinker, it may be too difficult to cut down completely from day 1. It’s totally understandable. The good thing is you have successfully stopped for 5 days in a row; that mean you can do it again this week, and perhaps try to beat this record? Take one step in a time and you will gradually get there. Have faith in yourself!
