The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death.
The above is part of More about Alcoholism chapter. How true! On an average they say a person spends about 20 years trying to moderate before finally few surrender and walk into the rooms of AA or other recovery programs.
Hats off to younger generations that are realizing this fact and addressing it at a much much early stages so they can have a decent life without any mind altering substances.

hmmm. I’ve never heard of your malady so I’ll google and see what I can find on it.
You said that coming on here stirred up unpleasant memories? Yes, i get triggered, too, by reading about things I need to avoid. I try to stay clear of those things cuz who wants to dwell in negativity if it’s harmful to oneself? We try to help people sometimes at our own expense and it’s hard to say no. If the content on this community is too much for you, it’s ok to say no. We have to have borders. 🤗
The people in this community have a variety of different issues and goals and it can be overwhelming for some people to sort through it all to get the kind of consistent support they need. Mixing people who want to continue to drink with people who want to stop drinking is like trying to mix oil with water. It doesn’t work very well. It can be confusing. People get discouraged and leave. It’s been like that since day one of this community.
