Not sure. But, if you are looking to stay stopped, we can help you overcome alcoholism. Maybe quitting alcohol will aleviate the symptons.

like isinatra said, we won’t be able to try talk about treatment for alcoholic neuropathy. I sobered up using the 12 steps of aa. I needed to understand what powerlessness and unmanageability means first. Aa talks about 3 concepts. One the spiritual malady the state of being restless irritable and discontented when we stop drinking. And then the mind after a few days even weeks later tricks us into drinking back again. Because the mind knows the only thing that gives us relief is booze. And the problem drinkers have the 3rd component where the body and mind craves for more alcohol. We are caught in that vicious cycle. If you can offord detoxification under medical supervision please do so. Once you are free from alcohol then you can look up local aa meetings and get help from them. I have some material I can share via pm. Take a look at it. It’s got a graphic illustration of this cycle.

Yes. This is a battle. You used the word that the book uses also: """If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer."""----The spiritual awakening they are talking about, is a attitude shift within us. When we went back to alcohol for every emotional discomfort, now we look for solution with the awakened consciousness other than alcohol.

I’d suggest you see a doctor for the medical problems. Glad you found us though. 👍🏼

Hi Dougal77, just a few snippets of information regarding neuropathy, I've been sober for nearly 11 years and unfortunately I have these symptoms still even now, they vary in different guises from day to day, from burning sensations to pins and needles, yes nerve damage, however medication is available but don't give up, whilst it's painful and uncomfortable I still live a normal life 😀 but I was told if I ever returned to drinking the symptoms would be even worse, don't smoke 🚬! And eat a well balanced diet, my symptoms have been compounded by having B12 problems which also causes similar problems, but living a life free from alcohol is a easier life than suffering with other drink related problems, hope this helps, any further questions, feel free to ask 🤗

Hi,

Thanks for this, it’s really appreciated.

Did you find your symptoms improved a bit after you stopped drinking?

I have been given Pregabalin, any idea if they are any good?

I am hopeful with lifestyle changes and intensive physio I can get back or close to normal.

I have started using hemp cream which seems to be helping a bit.

I really hope I can get my balance better.

I'm on pregabalin myself, the balance issues were a problem at the beginning, and I have no major issues anymore, I also take mirtrazapine at night as I find trying to get sleep is difficult, I'm on the highest dose 45mg, it's mainly used for depression but it's useful for this condition as well, some people even use vicks vapour rub on their feet, yes a strange thing, but for whatever reason it has a calming sensation for trying to ease pain receptors in the body, obviously drinking again will cause more damage to the nerves, anyone can get neuropathy, those with diabetes or receiving chemotherapy can also end up with these symptoms , I wish you well on your sober journey, best wishes 😊

How did you sort your balance out? Do you still have much pain?

The balance issues sorted themselves out over the years naturally, yes I have burning pains in my feet, and legs, however it doesn't help I have B12 problems which requires injections every 3 months, so this causes similar problems, numbness, there's different ways people describe pain as the pains and symptoms vary on each day obviously I never expected drinking alcohol would cause this long term damage, and it's not discussed as often in many cases, obviously being a heavy alcoholic has caused these problems, and that's why I'll never drink AGAIN, I can't say what the future holds for your symptoms, but I'm here alive and kicking and don't let it get you down 👍😉
