Day 1 of sobriety

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. My names Danny and I'm 30.

On Sunday I made the decision to go alcohol free. I've toyed with this idea before but I've never been serious about it until now.

Alcohol has become such a big part of my life and I feel its starting to take over. Many days are wasted, especially at weekends, where I'm either drinking or too hungover to do anything. Its pathetic really.

What I should be doing is spending more time with my kids and wife, doing something productive, taking up a new hobby and just getting a good night's sleep.

I'm really looking forward to this journey and I'm hoping to speak to some of you soon.

Danny.

Hi, Danny and Welcome! It’s wise of you to take alcohol seriously. It’s dangerous and you are already experiencing the dangers of it from what I understand. I’m assuming you have tried controlling your drinking but haven’t been able to. If you find you can’t stop on your own, seek help. The only thing that worked for me and thousands of others has been a twelve step program. For me, it was AA. They have online and probably in person meetings in your area if you would like to participate. I don’t know how long or how much you’ve been drinking, but some people have to start with a detox program first for their safety, then participate in a support group afterwards. Help is out there, you just have to use it. 🍀

From what you write, Danny, I think you’re in the right mental state to tackle this. Best of luck 🍀

Hi Danny im like you I drink to much can't remember what I did when im drunk. In the mornings I have a banging head ache. I have decided I need to give it up or cut back alot. I got rid of all alcohol in the house. I have tried before but couldn't do it. But since joining this group I now I will succeed. There are loads of people on here that gives you lots of advice. Anytime you need to chat we will be there

Hi all, thank you for the kind words, it all really helps. Day 3 - feeling great and no urge to drink any alcohol. Its early days but I'm confident I can do this indefinitely. I go away on holiday in a couple of weeks, I think that will show where I'm at. I'm ready for it and I've got all my tools to help me ready. Thanks again and everyone have a great day 😀

Hi DannyHow are you getting on with your decision not to drink. I have also made the decision to cut out alcohol. I found my alcohol use to be increasing and my control of it lessening. This is my second day sober and my intention is to do 2 weeks and I will see where I go from there. good luck
