Hi everyone.

I’m just here because drinking on a Friday has become more of a habit than a treat. I end up drinking the majority of a bottle of gin and to be honest I think it’s really bringing my moods down. I work from home, and I think I’ve just started to look forward to Friday night drinks as a way to end the week and begin the weekend. When I drink I end up smoking too, which isn’t good at all. I then spend all of Saturday a bit ropey and in a bit of a bad mood and I just want to knock it on the head and enjoy my time with my family. Does anyone have any tips on how to break the routine? I’m thinking of going up to the shops on Friday after work instead. Just worried in case it then passes over to Saturday night! Thank you 😊

Try starting with just the tonic/lemonade with loads of ice and slice, and a nice snack as someone on hear said you maybe hungry without knowing it! I think that was my issue that and the wine witch. Then alternate with one with a measured amount of gin and the one without. Hope you manage to find a way through, I'm new on here only on day 2 myself. We can do this and everyone here is so supportive.

Hi, ‘anyone ‘ who drinks alcohol is on a sliding scale of 1 - 10. Sounds like you are at the higher end. Alcohol is the most addictive drug there is. Just look at everyone else on a Friday night. Try reading Annie Grace - The Naked Mind. You will have many day 1’s. All you’ve done is reached the realization point that alcohol is not meant to be drunk. All the best on your alcohol free journey.

Hi I have good intentions on off with binge intend on few then if I have it in can have the lot have good meal before eating and I stopped drinking totally last year for 3 month's only could as lived with mam since coming home I have to leave my money at mam's and not have much alcohol in wake up call other night bought box of White Zinfandel rose not much left day after the thing is few nights before I got a box and was ok with few glasses I binge if sad or stressed also if happy my health anxiety gives me at least a night off I had cocoa on Friday even had bottle wine in, I am going back to AA it helps talking to like minded peoeple I only went once last year as I'm.not a alcoholic but it's different now with lockdown a lot have binged and there seeing there is a difference a thin line tho between binge and alcohism mine was getting worst more regular due to unhappiness so and my liver count was high showed on blood test I stopped and it got ok, I started drinking non alcoholic drinks even mixing mixing with alcohol or now I put water in red wine too much can cause heart problems too and brain hope you'll get on top of it 🤗

Hi Jayne, you are right to be concerned that your Friday nights might include saturdays as well…..sundays, mondays, etc. you may or may not be alcoholic, but when a person becomes concerned about how much they are drinking and their future with it, it’s time to take a serious inventory of their situation. I feel you are doing so now and that’s a good thing. It could very well save your life, marriage, job. Choosing other healthy stress relievers is a start. If it works, you have learned a good lesson. If it doesn’t work and you continue drinking even with negative consequences, that’s a bigger problem. AA is not a program to help people control their drinking. It’s a program to help cope with a life without drinking. It saved my life when I was ready to do anything to stop drinking. AA is there for the taking if and when needed.
