Merry meet all, I am on my fourth or fifth stroke even though I am under 50. I was treated for my last and biggest stroke in Canada and my rehab consisted of "suck it up", "stop being a drama queen" and "there are people worse off than you". my question is how do I cope , any advise on just getting from day to day

Hi Kittislave. I recently had a hemorrhagic bleed in April this year due to a cavernous venous malformation bursting. I had to have a couple of weeks off, but I was kind of dealt the same as you, in respect that I am young so I'll heal and that I could go back to work asap (I had had the bleed wednesday and stayed in hospital until the friday) they wanted me to go back to work on the Monday. Now that would of been fine, but I had a serious stammer/stutter due to the bleed and a right arm tremor, so could not do anything. I am sorry to hear that you have been treated in a "suck it up" way. Sometimes its good to get back to "normal" or at least what we did before, but I think mainly is take one day at a time, try not to get frustrated when you cant do something you used to be able to do, and just live for that moment :) !

Hi Kitteslave.

I had my Brain Heammorhage in 1998 at the age off 32.

I did manage to get to a fairly good lifestyle.

The Stroke effected my left side taking out my eye & ear & it left me with mobility problems.

Yes I also had all of those comments, but I used too let it all go over my "Head"

Take every day as they come.

Don't worry about what people say, they don't understand what we are going through.

Steve.

Hi to you

Shocked to read you were told to "SUCK IT UP" clearly this person or professional (so called) is not one to be listened to. Makes me angry that someone could be so insensitive. You get all the help you need and don't sit at home thinking it will come to you. Be a pain as much as you can and ask for help and support as much as you can. GP should be your first port of call and explain and spell out what you need to get a better quality of life. If your GP is not helpful, see another at your practise until you get some satisfaction.

Let me know how you get on?

Mary
