Hi I know what I’m going to explain is not sensible but it’s happening and I have to do something about it. I came to know just an hour ago that my sister (32years )is visiting me tomorrow from Pakistan for 6 days as a visitor. She usually has haemodialysis dialysis three times a week.

I have not made any arrangements for dialysis at Uk because she never informed me. she is taking a great risk and has put me under lots of stress and worry.

According to her she would be having her dialysis before departing Pak and once she reaches back she’d rush back straight to hospital for dialysis.

She went to Dubai for 4 days and managed but

God forbid what if her body can not sustain 6 days.. I need a backup plan ... I can’t stop her 😢Kindly advice me what can I do ?

I will be happy to pay for her dialysis privately as she would be an international tourist but where and how ?

I’m clueless

Can I book some place on urgent basis ?

Plz advice me

What area will your sister be staying in?

If you look at guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/our-... you'll see how visitors can arrange to have dialysis done. The cost at the above hospital is £300 per session, I'd guess a private hospital would be more.

Wherever she has it done, they will need plenty of advance notice. My local NHS dialysis unit (Bradford) is fully booked and they are persuading people to be on peritoneal dialysis. You/your sister need to sort something out asap.

She will be staying with me at Windsor , I read and got really worried as they require 4 weeks in advance. She is pushing her body and my nerves .. my only hope is God .. it’s Saturday tomorrow I just hope the centres are open and I can call but just for my information would I be able to take her in AnE or not ?

I have dialysis 4 days per week and so am allowed 2 days off dialysis at weekends.

Your sister may also be able to have some days off if she dialysed before she left but you are right to want to sort it out asap as every patient is different.......

Do try every angle.....

Ring round all local hospitals for options....

Good luck.......

I have no idea whether she has some residual renal function and how is blood results or fluid control, passing any urine etc. Still 6 days without dialysis is risky, especially, she has to fly ? 6- 8hours. Including the travelling time it will be almost 8 days without dialysis. Please try every dialysis units in your area. Ofcourse, dialysis units will need her reports and letter from her consultant. If you don't get any luck, take her to the accident and emergency (A&E) in a couple of days.

Good luck, EJ

Just an update: She came and had very restricted diet and water . First 2 days were good but afterwards she struggled.

She had some kinda medicine for keeping potassium levels low. She had literally 3 litre water in 6 days.

She mainly had white bread Apple jam and some tea for breakfasts.

Lentil soup , chicken curry and chapati for lunch and dinner. Apple and cherries for snacking.

We went to western Super Mere , Bath spa, Woodstock village , Windsor and central London.

Thank God she went back safely and had consecutive two dialysis. For future We visited Windsor Dialysis centre for information. Everything seemed fine except the nurses were not very experienced in handling fistula.

It’s difficult to see your loved ones in pain last two days she was very bloated and had bitter mouth.

You guys are strong and inspiration to thank God for his blessings .May God bless everyone health and happiness.
