Hi has anyone ever been on a cruise on peritonial dialysis? Please let me know. Ive been told I can do this but just wondered if it would be worth it as I probably wouldn't be able to leave the ship as I would have to dialyse 4 times a day

Cruise on Peritonial Dialysis
Hello
Yes! I went on a cruise on dialysis. All was a-ok and I'm really pleased I did it. I wasn't able to take my machine because there wasn't a suitable converter for it to work on the ship so I had to use manual bags. In order to get off the ship in the day you can dialyse during the night much like you would on the machine. It's a bit of a pain but was worth it. So I dialysed 7pm, midnight, 5/6am and then did an extraneal at 10am after breakfast before leaving the ship to get me through the day.
Discuss it with your CAPD nurses, they will help work out the best times for you so you can get off the ship during the day.
There is also no charge for the extra weight which is great news. Remember to tell your booking agent you are on dialysis so you fill out the medical form.
Enjoy the cruise!
I've cruised as well when on dialysis. I was on the overnight version so had no problem leaving the ship during the day. It worked really well, but we choose a departure in the UK as we thought that would be easier getting the fluid supplies to the ship. P&O were very accommodating. We could have kept the supplies in the hold and have them deliveried to the cabin when needed. No problem with the PD machine either. We were given an adapter by Baxter. It was heavy, but there is no weight problem on a cruise! Go and enjoy yourself!
I am looking forward to my first ever cruise although I am on HD so everything is taken care of for me. My only worry is will be seasick!!!
I was asked shouldn't I wait until I get a new kidney but that might not happen and in the meantime I am enjoying my life to the full.
