I had my fistular fitted in June roughly when would I start dialysis treatment

When I had one done they gave me a small squosh ball to exercise with and help build it up. It was then monitored by the renal nurses and when they felt it was strong enough to use they then tried it out using one needle and then both. I think mine was about eight weeks before they thought it was ready but I expect everyone will be different depending where it is positioned. They also kept me 500ml above my dry weight so that it would not dry out.

It always depends on the individual and how you feel.

Before my transplant recently failed (after 25 years) I was 13 months between the two events. This time I had my fistula on 20th May and started on August 18th this time. Take advise from your renal team and also if you feel as if life is too much of an effort (I couldn't walk more than about 2 metres before feeling faint) contact your renal team immediately. You need to make sure your fistula is strong and mature before use..
