Hello Jacki

Have you discussed the shoulder pain with your doctor/nurse? Could it be cramp related? It is not a usual symptom that I have heard of. My husband has been on CAPD for a few weeks, after we found that the overnight machine alarms made sleeping difficult. But you may be lucky. Some people do not get alarms much while others get an average of 2-3 a night. We were not told about this so found out the hard way. Keep us posted as to how you get on. Have you got support at home?

I was told that shoulder pain was caused by air in the drain tube not priming the drain line properly

Hello Jacki,

Sorry to hear about the shoulder pain. I am a fortunate transplant patient, but had dreadful shoulder pain after my op. Was told it was referred pain from the operation, so it may well be connected with your dialysis. Paracetamol helped me, if you are allowed to take it. Do hope things settle down. I tried overnight PD but kept laying on the tube and delaying the machine. As I was running a business this made me late in the morning so I went back on CAPD. Hope you settle into a routine that suits you. Best wishes,

Wendy

Hi Jackie.

I was on overnight for two and half years and got on fine with it. My machine alarmed twice in that time and my husband phoned the help line right away told them the code that was flashing on the screen and they talked him through what to do with no problem. They were always very helpful and supportive. I would go on my machine early which then gave my lots of time through the next day to enjoy! We also went on several holidays in Europe whilst I was on overnight dialysis and slept really well on it, although I was always tired! I hope you get on well with it jack keep me posted. X

Me again. Forgot to say I had shoulder pain a couple of times and my consultant said it was air from the fluid I did a few shoulder rolls and gently moved massaged it and it would go! Paula. X
