One hour a day is better. But one hour 3 days a week is a step in the right direction. some people say diabetes responds very well to regularity of routine. I.e. regular meals, at same hour every day. Regular walks, 2 times half an hour a day. Regular sleeping. exercise it essential, though it doesnt have to be walking.

A daily walk is advised. However, as arundhatip has mentioned above for someone not used to it may start with thrice a week. However, to have some benefit, it has soon to be made a daily routine.

walk for 3hours a week is enough, but one should walk at the rate of 6 kilometers/hour[walk so that you cover 6 km in an hour]
