Which is the best & easy to oprate, gluco meter in Indian market?

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde in reply toshrinivaskul

The best n easy to use glucometer in todays market is Glucocard mini from nicholas piramal also cost effective n strip.costs are also less compared to the one from accucheck....also the strip life is more as its individually packed

There is no such ADA guideline on what type of carb intake but d general consensus is that your overall carb intake should be low, moderate protein intake, high fibre n low fat intake in all diabetics

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde

As we look at any diabetic today....we r more concerned about the long term complications due to diabetes...n thats why such a diet is recommended as taking a high fat diet may show a low sugar effect momentarily but it leads to extensive atherosclerosis n eventually complications in diabetics at the earliest....here i would like to stress on high fibre diet like having more green leafy vegs, one fruit per day as these give good amount of fibre n helps to maintain sugars more effectively...n low carb diet is stressed more in our country as our indian diet constitutes majorly carbs only

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde

Infact it is so very true as your regulated diet helps more then 50% in overall improvement in diabetes....also daily brisk walk of 20-30 mins also helps a lot....in respect to pio...it is truely a wonderful drug n a boon to every diabetic if used safely n with caution but due to some unfortunate controversies of pharma companies it is banned is certain.countries like france not in all. But there r good indian studies coming up to prove the importance of dis drug in all type 2 diabetics n jalra is a new drug there r no long term safety data of this drug

hi

I am pioglucored and jalra. Does it have any long term safety issues?

I take 1 each twice a day and sugar levels r good.

Regards

Rajeev

drjsshinde in reply torajeev

Preferably if we could reduce ur dose of pioglucored forte by some means or d other it would b great as in long term both will make u gain lots of weight....ask for a substitute for it to reduce its dosage especially d drugs glibenclamide n.pioglitazone

drjsshinde

As u can see from ur link its currently banned only in european countries....n seriously dis is still very controversial....

As u r saying dat u r pill free...dat ways u may b controllibg ur sugars well but diabetes is just not about bld sugars its about preventing complications due it n dis is d area which is very poorly touched upon....by doing dis u r no where preventing ur complications at all

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde

To prevent complications u should do ur

Urine for microalbuminuria to rule out kidney problems, lipid profile with HDL-c and LDL-c and non-HDL-C levels and your eye checkup from an eye surgeon(fundoscopy)is needed annually atleast if all these reports r normal u r on d right track

Agreed US Vitamins' Jalra & Jalra M cause frequent loose motions & Diarrhoea! Brisk Walking every morning & evening, Yogasanas (physical exercises), Pranayams (deep breathing) & periodic & regular consumption of raw vegetables & fruits (fibrous content) enables terrific control of sugar levels & healthily burns the calories consumed!

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde in reply toPiyush

Infact we find it very difficult to make our pts compliant for these modalities....d problem is most of them dont follow it in long term.....also jalra per se diesnt cause loose motions but jalra-m can cause it due to metformin in dat

How much Pranayama, yoga helps in controlling/reducing sugar levels?

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde in reply tosursma

Its not about how much? ??? Its about for how many months or yrs u do it as longer d duration better is d beneficial effect of d same

Hi doctor, I was diagonsed with diabetes in 2006 and since then I have been on insulin novamix pen three. I take drinks. Is it harmful. These days my fasting is in the range of above 200. What to do. please tell me.

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde in reply tokuttu

Wen u take drinks at night it tends to alter your fasting bld sugars....also beer is d one one which hits d liver very badly n also pushes your fasting bld sugars at a very high level...once in 15 days 90ml whisky is permitted but definitely not in excess. ...also if u r on insulin even at.night n at d same time u r having drinks it can cause very low sugars in d middle of d night or early.morning....u hav not.mentioned whether u r type-2 /type-1 diabetic..

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde

Yea u r very right anoop dats why u hav to b on antihyperglycemic drugs like metformin n pioglitazone which reduces your bld sugars by not touching ur pancreas at all....d aim is to preserve ur beta cell of pancreas at d earliest d more time u loose u start getting deficient in insulin...n gradually insulin dependent

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde

Dpp4 Agents r new in market but dey r promising in preserving beta cells same is with pio...pio if used wid caution n a safer dose as all fda's hav given safety warning n hav not banned it as there r not solid studies to prove it completely dat it causes bladder cancer..infact our indian studies r more promising where in a huge group of pts having bladder cancer r assessed n hav found to hav no or negligible. intake of pio as all these things r in.pieline n dats why i cant provide u any weblink for d same

Alcohol causes Hypoglycemia not hyperglycemia. Kuttu, I think its due to "Dawn Phenomenon". When the alcohol brings your sugars down, glucose is released from your liver to keep you alive, this causes high blood sugars in morning.

Hello Doc, I was recently diagnosed with DM type 2 at the age of 38 and have been prescribed Diabend-MR (Gliclazide) once in morning and Metformin tablets before lunch and dinner. My blood sugar is under control now. I wish to know if there are any side-effects of these drugs, and if so, how to avoid them. Is it possible to control blood sugar with diet and exercise only without taking these meds? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

drjsshinde profile image
drjsshinde in reply toarn4u

The medications which u r having r really good....side effects of these drugs r almost negligible....only gastric irritation due to metformin....to avoid it have it after meal immediately....diet n exercise definitely helps in a long way in diabetes but these dont preserve ur beta cells in d pancreas that effectively n dis is wat helps to prevent complications as well...so medications, diet n exercise should go hand in hand
