Hi I am diabetic since 15 years and 44 years old. now my sugar level is under control. I take regular medicines. Please suggest me that weather I take alcohol or not.

Moderate drinking is OK for diabetics. 14 units per week is Ok provided it is not taken in large quantity in sigla day. One unit is one small peg of 30 ml or half pint of beer. It is better not to exceed 2 to 3 units in a sitting since it can cause hypoglycaemia if you are diabetic and take medicines. Better to avoid if you can. However some benefits of red wine for diabetic and heart patients have been advised

If you take 2to 3 pegs then your PP sugar may rise from 50 to 70 point and this raised sugar level may continue for 2 to 3 days.In my opinion alcohol is harmful for diabetes patients.

OK all I am not a regular drinker i was just wanted to know that on some occasions after four to six months when i attend some parties i consume 2-3 small pegs at night is is safe for me or not please advise........
