YOU CAN STOP ONLY AFTER A REVIEW BY YOUR DOCTOR AND THE SUGAR LEVELS ARE SATISFACTORY.

Only after ensuring that your diabetes is under control without medicine. If you want to stop medicines try GEM Diet and reduce medicine as the blood sugar come down progressively over a period of time.

If you stop metformin, the sugar level will become uncontrollable leading to diabetic complications. Otherwise, you have the option to take small dosage of insulin injections.

Take HbA1c test. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes.

An HbA1c of 5.6% or less is normal.

The following are the results when the HbA1c is being used to diagnose diabetes:--

* Normal: Less than 5.7%

* Pre-diabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%

* Diabetes: 6.5% or higher

If you have diabetes, you and your doctor or nurse will discuss the correct range for you. For many people the goal is to keep your level at or below 6.5 - 7%.

Discuss with your doctor.
