Hi Dr Hook The best advice I would give is look up DiabetesUK on the web - they have the most up to date and correct information. Also have a lot of good resources for you to use. If you are interested in hearing more around whats happening in NHS research for diabetes check out researchforthefuture.org

You need to eat protein & carbs together so your sugar doesn't spike. you can eat lots of veg but not the ones with sugar in it same goes for fruit, be careful with pasta and rice, though broccoli and cauliflower is a good substitute, there is lots of advise out there to help you from your diabetic nurse good luck Love & Hugs Xx

Hi DrHook you can eat a bit of dark chocolate and they do some nice diabetic biscuits these days but you can only eat a few as they can give you the runs, also you can have some popcorn or baked crisps but not to many they do some pea ones so you have some choice, so you don't have to go with out, was told that butter was better then marge as long as you can't see your teeth marks when you bite off what you spread it on. Be careful if you have sweetners as they can also upset your stomach the plant based one called stevia is best Love & Hugs Xx

Sugar is my weakness, hate tea without it! Been given a book at the pharmacy and a check on my meds. But advice like u gave makes it more liveable. Start tablets tomorrow! Thanks alot

Which tablets are you on? I take Metformin 1500 per day but they upset my IBS, so when I told the Dr she changed me to slow release Metformin which has helped. Am glad have helped you Love & Hugs Xx

Well are they keeping an eye on you as it might have to be increased and if it does upset your stomach/bowels ask for the slow release ones. Love & Hugs Xx

Don't eat too many banana's they have a very high sugar content, you must always have some protein when you eat carbs, eggs are good but dry fry them or boil, poach etc or any meat or fish Love & Hugs Xx
