There is no thing known as prediabetes. It is only diabetes detected rather early .

Eating healthy balanced limited food prepared at home with judicious use of all the spices , assures control of diabetes ,rather the bad effects of diabetes .

Cardomom --gives relief from acidity , heart burn ,gas ,constipation and colon cancer . riboflaven , vitaminc ,potassium , calcium , magnesium present in cardomom all help in purifying the blood .

Dalcini --- controls blood sugar , aborts blood clots , prevents ulcers , Rhumatoid arthritis and attacks bacteria and viruses .

Cloves----the problems of dental aches ,bronchial troubles ,vomitings etc are well attended to .

Coriander fights excess weight excess heat ,improves the functioning of liver , uterus and spleen . It throws out metalic poisoning from the body .

The regular use of these spices in controlled way in the preparation of food , Drinking of two litres of water per day , 15 minutes of yogasanas with 10 minutes of pranayama . a tea spoon of zeera after the lunch will take care of health problems with out any medication .

You may be checking your blood sugar levels regularly? If not its a good idea to get the finger pricker and monitor. That way you can see what foods do what to your sugar levels.

I've been using a book by Moseley which gives a low sugar diet. My personal big discoveries - how much sugar there is in some fruit; how I can eat 72% dark chocolate but check the amounts which is often given by square; the difference between white and whole grain bread (the latter is better).

I've kept a food diary alongside a note of what I've eaten. that way, and being quite disciplined, I've managed to get sugar levels down to single figures in about a month. That's on medication, after a bad lapse, and I'm hoping I'll be able to discuss reducing the medication too. I'm not on insulin, and really dont want to be on it.

Have a look at the diabetes.org.uk website, lots of information on diet etc. You can basically, eat whatever you want in moderation but be careful with carbohydrates and so cut back on sweets, chocolates, cakes, biscuits etc and bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. However, you don't need to cut anything out altogether. I am type 2 and I eat everything in moderation and swap foods out so that I can have treats occasionally, for instance yesterday I had birthday cake for dessert and had chicken shish with loads of salad and no pitta bread.

I don't test my bloods, Type 2 diabetics still have a working pancreas so don't need to test like Type 1s do. Some T2s have monitors (as I do) but find they are becoming obsessed with numbers! I used to only test in the week up to my HbA1c to get an idea of my levels and one day I had a reading that worried me. When I got to my HbA1c result it was almost in the normal range and when I told my nurse I had been worried about it she said that unless you are on gliclacide, sitagliptin or insulin you do not need to test regularly. I had worried myself sick for the whole time waiting for the results over one odd high (for me) reading. The HbA1c gives you an average over the last 3 months and that's what counts.

If you feel you want to get a monitor and strips then do so, but the strips are very expensive and usually have a short shelf life once opened. You won't get one from your diabetic team whilst you are pre-diabetic or even full Type 2 (unless your health authority has the money).

As my husband has diabetes 2 and afib we started LCHF diet. Consequence was immediate decrease of his blood sugar, decreased body weigt (lost 21 kg during 2 months) and decrease of his high blood pressure. LCHF mean as low carbohydrates as possible, and high "good fat". Start by reading, studying and choose what will function for you. We are measuring blood sugar at morning, before breakfast, before lunch and before dinner. Just to learn what is OK to eat and how much. Later you will know and it will be easier to relax and live a good live.

Prediabetes is the precursor stage before diabetes mellitus in which not all of the symptoms required to diagnose diabetes are present, but blood sugar is abnormally high. This stage is often referred to as the "grey area."[1] It is not a disease; the American Diabetes Association says,[2] "Prediabetes should not be viewed as a clinical entity in its own right but rather as an increased risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Prediabetes is associated with obesity (especially abdominal or visceral obesity), dyslipidemia with high triglycerides and/or low HDL cholesterol, and hypertension."[2] It is thus a metabolic diathesis or syndrome, and it usually involves no symptoms and only high blood sugar as the sole sign.

Impaired fasting glycemia and impaired glucose tolerance are two forms of prediabetes that are similar in clinical definition (glucose levels too high for their context) but are physiologically distinct.[3] Insulin resistance, the insulin resistance syndrome (metabolic syndrome or syndrome X), and prediabetes are closely related to one another and have overlapping aspects.

Wikipedia definition - Hope this helps with clarification.....yes there is such a condition as prediabetes per above. I live in California, USA.

My a1c is 6.1? That is pre diabetes. I take Prednisones and that's what brought on the sugar difficulties. I test my sugar twice a.day and I eat a no sugar and very low carbs. No medicine required yet. I hope to keep it that way. However I have been on steroids for many years and each time they go up so does the sugar. But it can be done. Just watch Your diet.
